My matix pipe bust the other day and created a sauna in the car. I have relpaced them but there is a leak from the joint. When I took off the old ones there was no rubber gasket,(could this be correct?) but the new ones have one. Now this does confuse me???? I fitted them with the gasket and it still leaks. Should I remove the gasket (remembering that it took me all day to put the pipes in) and see what happens or is there any other way to stop this leak with out removing them again???? Any ideas would be welcome.

Cheers

These can be a problem, especially resealing them when you refit them. Personally I'd use some sealant rather than the rubber gasket, heamatite or some other flange sealant should work fine. If you have a diesel car check for headgasket failure if they continue to leak as that was one of the first signs mine has that the head gasket had gone. (Check for pressurisation of coolant hoses when the engine is running but still cold).

Many Thanks E_T_V. I did not think this part should be without a seal.
I've also read your article on "how to make your heater blow hotter" so I should do the job properly and flush the whole system. Thanks for the advice and help.
