While I was at college doing a day-release engineering course, a classmate (if you could call them that at college) showed me a copy of Revs magazine. In it there was an article on a racing green Maestro turbo van which the owner claimed he could waste cosworths on a quarter-mile strip with. I didn't have enough time to read the article, so I was wandering if anyone here had any more information on it. Well, have you?!

Alan,

Is this the one?

Welcome to the boards :) Are you going to be bringing the van to any shows this year? There were 2 at the BL Rally last year - yours would make a welcome addition :)

In reply to Maria: Er, no, as she is in bits at the moment. I recently took redudancy from my last job of five years so I have some time on my hands to work in the garage.
In reply to Malcsmaesty: You should see a guy I know from another van club who lives down the road from me. He has a Transit like no other, with a supercharged Chevrolet V8 in it(!!)

As for shows, I will be taking one of my Toyotas to Billing aquadrome in August for the N.S.V.A. Van Nationals.

I just looked at that web page (!!!)
Hmm, that might be it although I'm sure the power rating was nearer 300BHP. What puzzles me is how did the owner fit those alloys on the rear with standard brake drums?

Oh this is really bugging me now! How do you put alloys on the rear of a van with standard rear hubs?! I signed the guy's guestbook but so far have had no reply.

Really frustrated vanner department.

Alan, the van's PCD (as you probably know) is bigger than the car, so to fit car-style alloys like X-spokes you'd need to swap the hubs for car hubs. When he says "standard hubs", he probably means standard car hubs, not uprated in any way. You can fit a wide range of non-Rover aftermarket alloys to van hubs though.

Not sure myself but I like the alloys on marias (camper)van and I believe that has standard rear hubs. Where there is a will there is a way.. I believe the vans have a different PCD don't they to the cars.

Someone who knows what they are talking about will be along in a minute

D'oh she beat me to it!

Hmm, I've looked at this possibility as I got a complete pair of hubs from a Monty turbo at a local salvage yard, but the stud spacing for the hub fixing is different between car and van as well! Oh well it looks like extensive engineering work whichever way I look at it.

Extremely frustrated vanner department:banghead:

Are you dead set on Maestro car alloys?

Alan the Vanner
28th July 2003, 16:14
Well, I've got them now! (50 squids for a set from another monty at the same yard, they're in good nick, too!) As well as that I have the front hubs already fitted, so it's all go now.
Mind you, when I was at a van show last year, I saw some guy was selling a pair of fitting rings that you could fit onto the hubs and then fit the wheels onto the rings with downsized studs. Genius!
Trouble was, they were 5-stud jobbies so were no use to me.

How's this for a T:censored: it, Malcsmaesty?

You live and learn. On my meanderings through webdom, I found this:
http://www.an-racing.co.uk They have a tuned Maestro putting out 418 BHP!!!
Owch!

I'm sure I remember reading that one was quite talked about on the Subaru impreza forums...some of them are quite complimentary about Maestros..:D

This car has been around for a few years now, its running more than the 418bhp stated now, much closer to 500bhp+. As many should already know it uses a heavily modified T series engine running at least 21psi of boost, T78 Turbo, external wastegate, charge cooler, front mounted intercooler, water injection, lower compression forged pistons and rods, bored out to 2.1. Uses DTA engine management, launch control etc. Many other things done as well but it's fastest time at USC this year was 12.3 seconds over the quarter mile. No other FWD car came close, its been the winner for the past 4 years. He'll in be for some competition soon, as i'm going M/T Series hybrid and will eventually be running 300 ish BHP..:)

Here, Gareth, I have seen a racing green Maesty turbo in and around Mildenhall on a couple of occasions. Whose is it?

MGTurbo

There are no green Turbo's in Mildenhall anymore, there used to be a BRG one, F62 NVA but tbis was recently scrapped. The only other one likely to have been here recently was a mate's car that i was working on, about 4 months ago at least.

According to the MG BBB, someone has mentioned that Andy is selling it for about £12K.

Gareth, if you see this. I try and ring tonight.
