I've had this CD Player for a while now and i've got a problem.

it's got it's own amp, which HAS to be connected 'cos the ariel plugs into it. On my DLX the space for the amp is taken up with the electric window control unit, what i'm wondering is how hard would it be to convert my 'leccy windows to a Monty style set up? If my memory serves me right, the window control unit is above the glovebox lid.

The other alternative is fit it to the VP, as the original radio is well past it's prime. Which creates more problems, there isn't physical space on the dash!

Anybody got any ideas?

Dean.

I've not seen that setup before. Any chance of any photos? Is the aerial amplified or are the speakers or perhaps both?

I'm not at home at the minute, when i am i'll take some photos.

It is a strange setup, got me confused, eBay win some time ago.

is there no room for the amp to sit underneath/behind the centre of the dashboard...?

I'm guessing the amp needs to be in the slot below the radio (where the leccy window controls are) so its controls can be operated?

I'd say it's eminently possible to swap to the later Monty leccy window controls, but messy. The wires to the doors are the same as far as I can tell, and the existing feeds and earth will be fine - it's the bit behind the dasboard that's going to need altering and the control wires extending to the new switches mounted on the centre console (the new control unit also gives you 45 seconds after the ignition has been switched off to close the windows  ).

The later Monty control unit sits on the top of the glovebox, so you are looking at some rewiring (dashboard off). It will be fiddly rather than difficult, just be patient.

Go for it, there are plenty of people here to give you encouragement (I fitted electric front windows to my Monty, along with a MkIII centre console, from scratch last year, and if I can do it... ).

Thats right, I want to get a Mk. III centre console anyway, after I have changed the seatbelts over to the later type so the console would fit. When I get round to fitting the leccy sunroof, i want to add a switch on the centre console for the sunroof as well.

As I said before, the VP is in need of some ICE, the DLX already has a CD player in it anyway. If anything it is going to come down to time (the downside to working 10-15 hr days and silly hours e.g. getting up at 2 a.m. to go to work!), the DLX still needs some bodywork doing, the VP needs some bodywork too, along with getting it running and on the back burner is the Metro VP rebuild which has yet to start (still quietly rusting away).

When I next run in to you, have a listen to the stero in the van and see if you like it! All was easy to do and not too expensive either.

Which radio is the R984.... are you sure the 'amplifier' is not an aerial diversity reciever, a'la Rover 800 with two FM aerials?

It was out of a Rover 800 actually, the amp says on it 4x25W, it's a complicated setup, but I WILL post pictures when I get hold of a digital camera.

Think the '984 is the CD version of the R682.

I have to say I haven't heard of the R984 so I will be interested to see a pic? Do you mean it has a cd controller, or it is a single CD setup?

The ones I can think off from the the top of my head are

R770
R660
R860
R950/960

We have the R960 in ours, fits in with the dash, none of this bright lashy lights and big buttons to press. Suits me

It's a single CD player.

Yeah, its a rare beast - was an option fit on Mk1 800's, and maybe available for early Mk2's... I think the 'amp' is probably the diversity aerial system.
