Simple question: what is it?
If I were to do this conversion, I would need this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=27380&item=4544007772&rd=1) set (added bonus: enough cam-cover gaskets to almost guarantee a non-leaky one) but what would this conversion be?

I don't know, but I would be more concerned about the label on the packaging.

BLMC stood for British Leyland Motor Corporation: the pack changes your 1983 Austin or MG Maestro into a 1973 Austin Maxi
(Sorry I don't have a genuine answer, but I couldn't resist that one: you handed it to me on a plate, even with a knife and fork each side)

Never could understand why BL call them conversion set, but it should!!! be a head gasket set i.e. Head gasket + other gaskets needed for changing the head gasket.

Well, that answers that then - thank you. It is to convert an R series engine with a blown head-gasket into one with a perfectly sound head-gasket.
In that case, I don't want it as I have a new R series gasket set tucked away in the shed.

Yes, a "conversion gasket set" is basically an engine gasket set which in your case might prove very useful both now and in the future. I don't know why they called them thus, however...

It's almost certainly just crap labelling from the manufacturer. I mean, it says Maestro 1.6 'R Series' - 188cc!!
Did they make a motorbike version of this engine?
