My first posting as a newbie to this site!
Problem encountered at Thruxton race day yesterday.
I am running a standard 2.0 EFi engine in a maestro race car, and on a ten lap race by lap seven I am getting a misfire but only when cornering. Straight line acceleration is fine but accelerating out of (generally right handers) i get a misfire. I am guessing it could be fuel filter or injectors?
any suggestions!

bad eletrical connection? or not getting good pick up of fuel?

Hi, I agree with Tony, are you running the standard fuel tank if so I have seen the fuel pick up pipe bent up. Also the standard EFI fuel tank has a swirl pot to draw cool fuel to the pick up these have been known to come adrift which would make the problem worse.

good point, something i've not considered. it is a standard tank with standard fuel connections, i will take a look tomorrow. Some cars run foam like fuel fillers to even out the spread of fuel in a tank to reduce "sloshing" this may also be an issue even though i did put 15 litres in the tank before the race.
any other suggestions welcome.

i guess in terms of electrical, it could be the ECU, i have a box full of them, so i could try a different ECU, unfortunately none of this will get retested until Pembrey race day in three weeks. :banghead:

Did you measure how much fuel you had left at the end of the race? If you are running low on fuel (as is usually the case to minimise weight!), then if the fuel pickup isn't in exactly the bottom of the tank then you can start sucking air which will cause problems like you are experiencing. Also check the wiring to the fuel pump and around the engine bay as I know some of the racers use minimal DIY wiring looms to further reduce weight.

plenty of fuel, perhaps too much as these cars only do 10 miles to the gallon. wiring could be likely as electrical problems seems to be the major cause for the race cars, i will check and probably replace the fuel filter and clean the injectors.
thanks!

can you fit and use a fuel cell ? are you allowed?

Hi, If a standard Maestro EFI runs out of fuel it can take at least 2 gallons to get unairiated fuel into the pickup. I think you have the answer really especially that others are going to a bit of trouble to stop fuel surge with foam. I would deffo do that before next race or put more gas in.
Cheers gary :)
