It’s the first round of the MGOC Racing Championship on Easter Monday at Thruxton. Anyone fancy going?

It’s a good fast circuit with a few good photo opportunities, and as well as the MG Maestros there’ll be post historic touring cars, classic thunder, MGs and Caterhams.

Bedroom decorating. However I will definitely be going to Mallory Park. Make sure you get some nice pics to put on the forum.

Watching Maestros race is such fun.

Jon, if there are any MG1600s there can you see if you can get some details for the MG1600 register?

I appreciate it can be tricky as they don't have number plates but a few piccies would be good. I think I have about 90 cars on the list with about 25 on the road - a few race cars would boost the number of surviving cars.

oooo....

I'll see you there Jon. Good oportunity to zoom up in the MG. Not too far for us either!

I'm supposed to be working but no one will be there to check on me! I can just do twice as much work on Tuesday! Now thats "time management"!

Looking forward to seeing your 'new' MG, Dave. Mine's SORN for another month but I've just got a few loose ends to tie-up now.

I'll see what I can do with the MG1600s for you Matt

... I will definitely be going to Mallory Park. ...
Watching Maestros race is such fun.

Early call, we are arranging a meet at Mallory Park, near Hinckley, Leicestershire, on Sunday 19th June for the fifth round of the MGOC Racing Championship (includes MG Maestros and Montegos).

The schedule for the day also includes pick up trucks, BMW, MG, Classic and Historic Touring Cars. Admission will be £10.

More details and a specific thread to follow in early May, but put the date in your diaries now.

I didn't see you Jon - but i did see your coupe! My MG was parked about 10 cars away against the fence, you may have seen through the fence if you walked around near where those burger trucks were.

Pics to follow tomorrow.

Sorry, I got a bit preoccupied with the photography side of things - I noticed your MG lurking behind the fence though. I was in the complex much of the day but the Maestro pics are all taken from the Club chicane which was just mayhem, once again.

Dave, great photos! in your pic 1108 you can just see my little car, green with yellow roof and roll cage. Came 14th out of 21 in class with NO DENTS!!

Discovered very quickly running a standard engine at Thruxton is not good, but i am waiting for the completion of my race engine hopefully for Brands Hatch in May. The master of engine builds, Doug Cole, will be doing the work for me.

By the way, does anyone have all four door cards available for my 2.0 efi?

Phil,
I'll have a look through my pics - i may have some more of your car.....
I've got some digital video of cars coming through the chicanes, and the start of the race if you like.

DAve have you any of 1176 bigger, i.e.: around 1024x768? I'd love to use that one as a backdrop - ZR chasing a Maestro, past and future in one shot.

Dave
29th March 2005, 23:04
Yep, I'll email you a better copy of 1176.

No19 - i've got two more great pics, i'll post them in a second.

Hmmm... second pic wont post - i'll try again later.

I payed particular attention to your car because I've just bought an MG EFi in the same colour - its actually pretty rare to spot them in BRG.

I'm sure I'll see you at a few more races this year - especially if the weather is as good as it was yesterday!

Hi Phil - no problems! You're welcome to them in your report if you don't mind adding a small credit somewhere.

I don't seem to have any pictures of car 19 but I'll look out for you at Brands, by which time I might be able to find a better lens to play with rather than a 210mm and 2x converter. I've put a few more pics from the MG Saloon race here (http://www.maestro.org.uk/images/tx280305/) for now for anyone interested, some are a little bit blurred but the best I could do with the equipment and no photographer pass!

yes, fantastic weather and very lucky for the first race of the season. By the way you are an auto engineer, one of the guys said to me yesterday that using a different crankshaft wheel would give me 20 BHP more, could you shed some more light on that for me?

Sorry, I missed the event.

Took a detour home.

Saw a number of MGBs being trailered home up the M3 though.

OK - I have a question about these races. The cars always look immaculate in these photos and those in the MGOC magazine, but they must get quite a few knocks. If doors are no longer available, where do they get their replacement panels from?!

thats a good question. Generally from other Maestros so we tend to collect a few cars. Other than that we can have some panels made up with the exception of doors or major structural parts of the car. It is getting harder to get parts and in fact i am picking up a maestro 2.0 Efi a week friday for spares and panels. Some of the drivers are switching to MGZRs and my guess is that in the next five or six years we will all be on MGZRs.

Aww, that would be a shame. I'm always impressed that the Maestro keeps up with some of the newer models

If you look closely you'll find many of them have less than perfect bodywork but the long lenses used to take the photographs and the interesting paint jobs tend to disguise the racing incidents. Most of the panels bash back out to some semblance of what they were originally which is good enough for most racers.

Yes, thats pretty much it. We racers still suffer from rust in the usual places but we tend to do quite a bit of metal cutting and welding to fix these problems and sure a good slap of paint keeps the body together. Mind you Class B & Z are renowed for their contact sport so panels often get replaced. My car is made up of three different cars!

More fun to watch, I find the Maestro racing more entertaining than most races. Can't wait to go again this year :)

as you are online, can you help me out with something, i am getting internal server error messages when I am trying to submit an item for sale in the classified section, is it me or is it the internal server?

Phil

6th April 2005, 21:51
Sorry about that, there is a slight glitch in the maestro and montego matrix! The glitch means you'll have to e-mail any classifieds to our webmaster (jon). The glitch has been there for a little while and there is a thread somewhere on here about it. There is something new coming soon which is why the glitch hasn't been fixed yet.

Beaker
6th April 2005, 22:09
Here is the link with the information in about the classfieds. http://www.maestro.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=2691

Sorry about that, it happened when we moved servers, and as we have some all singing and dancing software to replace the old system soon it didn't make sense to see what was up with it. It should hopefully *crosses fingers* be live soon.

But if you do have anything you want to put up in the meantime give Jonathan an email along with any photos you may want to put with the for sale items.
