Guys

This is similar to a previous thread but slightly different. I have a FREIGHT ROVER G Reg SHERPA 200. It must be the last as there are G reg DAF's around too. Anyhoo - it's a 1.7 Petrol and I have a 2l N/A Montego/Maestro diesel - Perkins Prima. I have heard various things including that it's the same block. Any advice please on swapping over, bit's I'll need to buy, and where to buy bits from - I already know I want an air filter and an oil filter. Please be as technical as possible with answers as we have plenty of understanding. Also, the van is in daily use so I need to minimise how long it's off the road for so any advice on potential hiccups would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know the sherpa and the maestro engine are virtually indentical. The only things that you may find are differnet are the exhaust manifold, various coolant hoses etc and for some reason the dipstick springs to mind but I'm not sure why. The only sticking point is the gearbox which will most likely have a different final drive ratio for the petrol engine compared with the diesel one (assuming that they share a common gearbox type), so you may need to find a diesel sherpa gearbox too.

Friend of mine drives an LDV200 with a retro fitted Prima engine. The most problematic bit was making the PAS pump fit. It's never really worked terribly well and the belt squeals apallingly. The rest of the conversion worked fine.
