Looking at the events forum, it seems that all the events are somewhat Midlands based, when they're not further north.

Are there any Maestro owners/club members in the south or south west? And do they go to any shows or events down here?

signed, lonely Maestro owner... :violin:

The majority of shows are held in the South....Check out the Events Section on the Website. It would be nice for the Southerners to get together like us from Oop North tho...

Maybe the club needs some offical or non offical event orginsers for north, middle and south. Im willing to travel nation wide for a big show, but for something like an auto jumble i wouldnt really want to go to far. maybe 60miles tops.

There are a couple of us around the Southampton/Portsmouth area. Whereabouts on the Dorset coast are you?

As it says in my signature, I'm not actually a Maestro/Montego owner as yet. (And thanks to Thursday's council tax bill, I don't think I'm going to be for a good while yet :(, unless I land a job which pays significantly more than I get at the moment!)
What my signature doesn't point out is that I have very little free time.

This year there are at least a couple of shows with a club display in the London area. I'm in the South East too but part of the experience for me is in the driving - and escaping from it! If there's a weekend organised in North Yorkshire or the Lake District it's ideal :)

If you prefer something closer to home there's generally something happening somewhere most weekends throughout the year and this board is one way of finding out who else is going along, or even organising your own. For example there's a group in the South West who organise an excellent but perhaps little known-about 'Classic British Saloon Car day' near Exeter on the first weekend of May every year. I'm betting that Matthew Semple will be along to tell us about this year's event before too long!

One of our members has organised a display of Austin Cars (for the centenary year) at the Adur Vintage Transport Fayre in Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex which is held on the Spring Bank Holiday Monday 30th May. He needs a good Austin Maestro to complete the line-up so if anyone has one and wants to join in drop me a PM and I'll pass your details on to him.

Well, the one you should certainly consider going to is the BMC/BL day in Nene Park, Peterborough.

It's not too far to drive from Dorset and is well worth the drive. One member drove from Scotland a couple of years back.

Take a look at the reviews (http://www.maestro.org.uk/events/reviews.html) on this site and also on my site (http://pages.zoom.co.uk/wonkeydonkey/).

Hope to see you there :)

Mm, I guess the terms north and south are relative - to me, anything that isn't south of London, isn't south, that's why I can't find any southern events!

Good point :)

Although as Jon says, part of the fun is getting there (or not, eh Jon? ;))

What could be nicer than a warm summer day with the windows down and your Maestro purring along on the open road?

Well, apart from a warm summer day zooming along on a trike.........

But the broken leg that caused me to be driving Doris instead of Gertie is why I'm not very sure about travelling very far yet - oh and cos I'm not yet used to having a car with no power steering!

However, I've found a couple of classic car events near here, and when I've found out a bit more I may post them......

It is a little annoying when you see all the events are miles and miles away, but I did make the trek up to Knebworth at the end of August last year, and can safely say it was well worth it, even if I couldn't put 100% faith in the LX getting us there, as I know Dave had done many long runs in it before I got it, but there is no way of telling how it will react to a long run round the M25 after being led up for a while!
It is good to see more contributors from down here though, as Peter said there are a couple of us already, if you do see an event you want to go to (Peterborough is definitely on my list this year!), then maybe we can go up in convoy, in true southern "tea and crumpets and croquet on the lawn" style!

Ricky.

P.S. Sorry about the croquet reference, but I do live in David Gower's back garden (Hampshire) you know!
