Hi All

I have small niggley problems with my central locking (E reg 2L EFI). It all started when I realised that both the rear passenger wouldnt unlock when I unlocked the drivers door. This was never a problem because I dont really carry passengers in the back. I spent some time yesterday oiling up all the linkages etc and so far..., It seems I have cured it.

My problem is the boot-lock. It is always locked! I tried using the central locking, and tried unlocking the boot with the key with no luck. The key goes in, but wont turn. I have been using the boot with the same key for nearly 2 years and I have never had a problem until now

Help!!!!

(PS.. My neighbour has a Monty with central locking, and he has the same prob with his rear doors.......... weird huh!)

The problem with "lazy" central door locks particularly on the rear doors is very common. One solution is to retrofit better motors from a newer metro etc or fit modified ones from maplin, if relubrication of the linkages and motors themselves doesn't help.

The boot lock problem you may find is that the central door locking for the boot has unsynchronised itself with the rest of the system. Try locking your car and you may now find that the boot is open or you can use the key to open it. It is a fairly common problem and re-synchonising them seems to be a black art with no-one having a comprehensive method that I've run into so far. The solution seems to be that if they are synchronised never use the key in the boot lock as this can sometimes cause it to become unsynchronised.

What you do is this:

Ensure that the boot solenoid is working as it should. You may need to remove it from the car to do this. Make sure that it's strong enough to move the linkage and that the linkage is free-moving.

Then lock the car.

Test to see if the boot is locked. If not, lock it.

Now unlock the car

The boot should unlock with the other doors.

If not, unlock it and cycle through a lock and unlock.

On a Maestro, when the boot is locked with central locking you should not be able to depress the button. When it's locked non-centrally the button pushes in but doesn't interact with the linkage.

That's always fixed it for me.

After it's fixed, simply resolve to lock/unlock the boot using the Driver's door!

yay - I fixed it. Somehow I managed to remove the parcel shelf from the inside, and got access to the linkages for the boot lock. After squirting everything in sight with good old WD, it eventually unlocked.

I guess with the cold weather we have had recently, it just froze up and stuck.

Thanks for the suggestion guys......, and yes, my lazy locking is still working (touch wood!!!!)
