View Full Version : Newark Autojumble, Sunday 27th Feb 2005 - parking in the paddock.

I have managed to arrange for parking 'in the paddock' (as opposed to parking in the general car parking area) for members of this forum in Maestros and Montegos on the day. However, space may well be limited and so we need to confirm numbers of cars likely to attend.
This is quite an achievement, as the people who run the Newark and Huddersfield Autojumbles have a pretty strict pre-June 1980 'cut off', similar to the 'cut off' for showing cars at the Bromley Pageant Of Motoring.
So please can people who would like to attend and park their cars in the show/autojumble area please send me an email (not a 'private message', thanks) here (richard.smith@maestro.org.uk) to show interest in attending or conform that they will be attending (as appropriate). I will need to know the registration number of the car you will be attending in.
Thanks in advance, and look forward to meeting you there  .

Looking forward to this now, will be good to park in the paddock rather than in the normal car park and hopefully will find some bargains.
Can't persuade any people from derbyshire/midlands area to come? Newark isn't that far.

well, i will be coming, and bringing a few goodies !
Today i picked up 7 VDP wheel trims for the Maestro vdp model.
These are the 'Bolt on' type which also have a round centre to cover the nuts.
they are in fair condition but could do with some tidying (although the chrome/stainles edge's are in good order).
I got em cos they have been on the wall of a yard near york for ages.
Cost????? dont worry ! ;) they cost me £2.50 each!, if any one wants some i will take them to Newark.
I believe they may be for early vdp's??????

Skatie,
Although they are 14" rims, the GSI alloys look the same as the metric MG alloys. the difference being that they have round centre covers.

What time, and when, where are we meeting? Also what is the entrance fee?

I believe the arrangments are as follows.(but dont quote me!)
Meet at around 08.30am on the A57 where it meets the M1.
As you come off the M1 (southbound), onto the A57 there is a layby on the left.
You will have to look out for it, as you will be on top of the entrance almost as soon as you turn off the slip road onto the A57.
After that it's convoy time across the A57 and then down the A1 to Newark.
Best to check and confirm with RS on friday as it may change at the last minute.
Mal.

Ah cack! I've only just worked out that Newark is fairly close to St. Ives - about 70 miles up the A1M. Thanks for the tip, Other Other Rich.
Is it too late for me to turn up? If not my reg number is A335 BWV.
Do you guys mind meeting up somewhere a bit later on - it doesn't make sense for me to meet on the M1 A57 but if you're up for it it'd be good to see you all. Perhaps at about 9:00 at the A46/A1/A17 junction if there's a service station that anyone knows about...?
Sorry for the late notice!

Good work, Mal!
Is that a turn off from the A1? - if so that sounds grand. I'll PM you my mobile number and see you at about 10:00 at the fast food empire.

Had great fun today, 7 cars in total on show in the paddock incl. a MG and a very very nice Montego 1.6. A fair few people took interest in them.
Bargains of the day, a spare lightbar for George, complete with bomb disposal on it. I will take a picture later. Also got some brown seatbelt stalks for Geoffery, certainly a rare item to see them still in one piece.
Late afternoon was spent visting the LHD MG1600, looking rather nice for itself I must say. Some recordings have also been taken of the foreign voice synthesiser too.
A photo of the day....

Yes a good time was had by all. Parking in the Classics section was good, with quite a few people taking interest in the cars. Dan's Camper getting the most looks from what I saw!
Anyway - some pictures for you...
1) Adam Jennings B Reg Austin Mintego 1.6L - only 22,000 miles
2) Our cars on display - most covered in lots of Salt!
3) Mmmm...Lovely!
4) A tidy 2.0 MG

Well, that went well, I thought. I'll echo others' thoughts - wasn't it easy getting in?!?!? It seemed to get colder, and the 3 of us from the Manchester area (ChrisM, Austin-Rover and myself) had a snowy drive for the first 70 miles or so (we set off before 7am, and the last of us didn't get home until about 8pm), but as the pics show it was a lovely day at the venue - with many cars (some mint, some not) on show, alongside ours, that you just don't see around anymore. Thanks to MGMal for the inspiration to attend, much appreciated  !
And sorry, passionwagon, there weren't any wheel trims for 'our' cars at all that I saw. But a few stall holders are aware that there is an interest in Maestro and Montego bits, so maybe next time? :)
Talking of next time, that will be at the Easter Weekend (Sunday 27th March) and it includes a parade of Classic cars as well. And there is camping at £5 per unit if you are feeling brave  . But I will post another thread about this nearer the time.
