I'm looking for a full set of springs and shocks which would be suitable for my MG Maestro Turbo.

Have a look on this thread for a company which sells lowering springs, and advice on the amount you should drop. http://www.maestro.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1375&highlight=springs

and this one http://www.maestro.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=863&highlight=springs

Hi,

I'm happy with the car, but the more I look the more problems I find!!!

It needs "LOADS" more welding than I initially thought so that is the main problem.

So far I have replaced the radiator with a custom built triple core unit, replaced the brake master cylinder/fluid, headlining, fixed the power steering fluid leak and fitted my quickshift kit!!

Next on the agenda is sorting the handling out:
New springs
New shocks
Tracking set
Re-seal of all tyres (they just wont hold any air)
Ball joints/Trackrods inspected/replaced

I will get there in the end!!!

Do not ruin the car by lowering it 2" (IMO). If you want to go this low I recommend adjustable spax for about £400. You'll definitely damage the sump as well. Economy wise, I would recommend KYB - either 1 1/2" or 1" lowered uprated kit (cheaper). Most importantly, I would purchase some polyurethane bushes which will seriously improve handling even when on standard ride height.

Hi Scott,

What size wheels are you using? If you lower the car by 2" on 15" rims you will definately destroy the sump soone rthen later.

You need 16" rims to go 2" lower to be safe. And then becareful over speed bumps.

I use kyb gas dampers they are ok.

there are 264 and 250mm struts for frornt and 180, 167, 152mm rears i think off the top of my ghead. i use the 250`s and 152`mm stuts with 2" lowering springs on 17" rims 205/40/17 tyres.

still not low enough though for me...

i used to run 16" rims on 205/45/16 tyres with the same suspension. the car handled better then. plus you will find that a 16" rim with 45 profile lok sbetter the 15" rim with 55 profile plus is smaller circumference therefore improves accleration. provided your 16 wheel is same/lightwer weight then 15". i had compomtives, they were solid wheels, but heavy. my 17" KN Dytecs are lighter then the compo 16".

although 16`s handles better, i like the bling of 17"...
