They're still making them here...
I'll see if the place can put the logo on them if that's ok with everyone (nice idea)

We seem to have all sorts here in Bournemouth mainly escorts and golfs with the ford or vw logo's...local plod don't seem to mind but they will give us grief if the spacing of letters is wrong

I think the Euro number plates look good on a car that has been heavily customised. However, for originality purposes I would stick to the ordinary number plates. I only changed mine because they looked tired. If I could find someone who does original size digit plates I would be interested in them doing me a couple so long as I could get the name of the original Rover dealer at the bottom.

I'm after the pre Y reg number plates obviously. I have yet to ask Congleton Garages (if they still exist) whether they could do me some original plates, but if they won't I could always find them the materials in which to make up a number plate for me

As I said m8 there's a little place down the road from me, they make custom plates to your own design, as steve said earlier some of them are pretty illegal though

You need your reg docs and driving licence to get plates done these days, as you may know, so it would be difficult to get a plate done for somebody else. Like I said - I'll contact my Rover dealer and see if they still do the old pressings but I doubt they will. I'd be happy with the standard plates with a black frame though.

Cheers,

John:)

This is something I've been thinking about for a while - there's quite an extensive thread on the other forum about it.

Basically, I think that the new font and spacing looks wrong on an otherwise original Maestro/Monty. I couldn't imagine how shoddy it'd look on my father's A-reg car for instance:

http://www.maestroweb.co.uk/images/bmc2002/02bmc022.jpg

I managed to procure the characters to make a new set for F153 but my local plate maker can't use them because apparently they're the wrong way round for his machine - they'd turn out mirrored! If you're interested in getting the characters I could let you know of the nice man in Camden highstreet who has a stock left.

So I'm still looking. It is of course illegal for anyone to make up a plate with the wrong type of font but how would anyone prove that it hadn't been on the car from before the regulations?

I think that the regulations should cater for cherished cars by allowing the old font on pre-2001 cars. Maybe I'm just too much of a perfectionist tho :(

My perfect plate would be with old-style font, a modern England logod plate and www.maestro.org.uk along the bottom.

If you manage to get a plate made up then please let me know how because I'd love to replace the rather tatty ones on F153.

Oh, one last thing, if I do ever get the chance to get new plates I'm not going to use the traditional two screws to fix them in place because a) it can look messy if you have to drill through a character and b) it encourages the backing plastic to lift from the plate itself and is why I need a new set in the first place!
