Help please!

My Rover dealer tells me that the H.G. is NLA.

I bought a pattern H.G. set from my Motor Factor only to find that the H.G. is not the right one. Apparently, the later heads need to have a gasket with a round oil hole (not oval). They tell me the correct pattern gasket is NLA too! :(

:worried:

Can anyone help or offer some advice. I think we will all have this trouble in time to come - what can be done about it?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Regards,
Dean.

Help please!

My Rover dealer tells me that the H.G. is NLA.

It does sound worrying if you can't even get one from the motorfactors, I am presuming headgaskets can be made easily enough or is someone going to shoot me down in flames and say its really difficult?

I am sorted now, thanks to every1 for help and advice.

For future reference, the part number that has been confirmed by Patrick Roberts and Ian Creswell is LVB 702595 EVA.

The guy at my dealership was using number 702594, I wonder what the difference is - maybe the older oval oil hole type? Anyway, it is that part number he said was NLA.

Cheers,
Dean. ;)

Good to hear that you have found the part you need.

Could you post up a picture of your car? That would be the lowest numbered car I know of apart from the press cars.

I know Graham won't be the only person who is wondering what the actually difference between the Efi and Turbo headgasket is as both are the O series engine.

As Dean has mentioned there is a small matter of a oil hole being round not oval. Would someone care to explain what significant difference it makes for dummies?

I wish someone would because I am still none the wiser. :banghead:

All I know now after a long drawn out process of investigation is thatthe ealier Montego Turbo head gasket (and therefore head I presume) has the oval hole wheras the later Maestro head gasket (and head?) has the roiund oil hole.

Now if I am not mistaken the std 2.0 O series head gasket is not suitable for any of the turbo cars. this fact I am not sure of.

But.... i still don't know what the difference is on the gasket itself.

I wait to be educated.

regards,
dean.

PS Matthew (and anyone else whos interested), i have just bought myself a dig camera off e-Bay and will hopefully be able to post pictures of no9 sometime in the near future.

The shape of the oil-hole is a way you can tell them appart: it's not the key difference. The key difference is that the Turbo HG can withstand the high-pressures inside the engine's combustion-chamber uinder boost and the non-Turbo gasket cannot.

I can confirm that Dean's car (#9) is the lowest-numbered known surviving example after the black press car (#5), which is still around and has recently been restored.

Cheers John - even I hadn't realised that!

Any closer to having confirmed numbers at this point, worth an updat e or too early?

Can you confirm if G 82 WHt ever surived, or the last known siting. i owned this way back in 1993.

Cheers,
Dean.
