Well "Zippy" is being overhauled.... ;) but what bad weather! ...freezing weather!! :horror: (definitely not bikini weather)....i started to over haul the rear brakes...whate fun that turned out to be....started doing the rear shoes and boy was the hub solid....nearly resulting in mortal injury...i know the haynes manual says use (judicious force) but i hadn't realised it meant use (gratuitous violence) and obligatory cussing!this s how i felt :banghead:
So right side done now to the left...aha....starte d to go dark...then sleeting heavily....well i ha d aproblem which i dont know if any of you have had?Brake shoes on correctly...time to fit the hub....time to fit the hub....time....plenty of it and one hell of a lot of banging too! :banghead: :banghead:
Well it wouldnt go on so "zippy is still on axle stands" one whell less...turning into some reliant robin or something....Any ideas for a stubborn hub?Myabe its warped...i dont know...but it resulted in a broken wheel bearing...so maybe that was the problem...Argh!So Friday i get that and start again...
well on a good note heres a great place for the SU CARB bits...(i decided to do that in the meantime)....the overhaul kit was around £11 inc vat and post
i thought reasonable...very fast service....and i think they may do more stuff...so if that helps heres the link.....

anf if it helps anyone thats great:)
any ideas for the hub probelem would be appreciated......
but maybe another day it works out!

you have to fiddle with the self-adjusters until the brakes are in the 'small circle' position, then replace the drum and bearings. Then pump the brakes a few times, drive round the block gently, then try the handbrake. If not fully on in 3 to 4 clicks, whack the drums with a soft lump hammer (lead or copper) to persuade the self-adjusters to adjust.

Hi Shawn, Did you slacken the hand brake cable adjustment right off before you started? Often overlooked! ;) If not you will have problems removing & refitting drums.

Left hand hub nut is left hand thread but i'm sure that would be mentioned in your manual.

Cheers Gary :)
