View Full Version : Austin Centenary Event - Overnight Camping available.

19th January 2005, 19:20
As we know, it is Austin’s Centenary this year, and there is a Centenary Event at Cofton Park, Longbridge, on the weekend of Friday 8th July to Sunday 10th July.

We are treating this as the Club’s National Event and the Montego’s coming of age Event as well (whereas we had a day out at Longbridge last May for the Maestro’s 21st Birthday) - and there is the opportunity for Camping overnight on the Park as well, with reasonable facilities on site. It will be a good weekend.

We have decided to book places for Camping for the Friday and Saturday nights so as to make a ‘weekend’ of it, but places are limited (we have already had to book a provisional number so as to allow the organisers to plan where people are going to pitch tents etc). There is also limited camping on a few other nights just before and immediately after these 2 nights as well.

Please can I ask, provisionally, that people who are interested in Camping on these dates post below, so we have a better idea of how many pitches we will need?

I will set the ball rolling by saying that I will be there...

Think I might make it to this one, if I can bring the other 'arf to help with the driving/tent erecting etc!

That's one tent, 2 peeps, one Maestro.

Erm - wasn't there a thread somewhere with a link to ordering tickets.... can't find it now!

BikerGran
18th March 2005, 14:42
Aha! Found the link, it's on the main site.

Had a look at the form - there's a couple of questions about my car I'm not sure how to answer.

Date built - is date of first reg ok or should I be looking for something different?
Coachwork stuyle - as in '5 door hatchback' ?
Coachbuilder - how on earth do I find out this?
Colour - spose I need to look at the colour code on the VIN plate for this one? Or is it good enough to just put 'gold'?

Beaker
18th March 2005, 15:10
You have to remember the form is designed for all ages of austins from early to present.

Year of Registration for Date Built. Then I would presonally just strike a line through coachbuilder. Possible put the specification in Coachwork style, if you haven't already put it in under model. It will be good enough to put Gold I reckon.

As far as I am aware at present the plans are to camp friday/saturday night and b&b/hotel for those who want more comfort (be aware spaces for these will fill quickly- contact Rich Smith who has details of places that have spaces). I will be camping.

Black Tie Dinner for people wanting to go on the Friday night, and Barbeque for the rest of us. Then there is a communal hog roast Saturday night.

I am personally hoping we will get our best turn out yet for a club show, after all this a 'once in a lifetime' event. Its fairly central (apart from those members in Scotland) so there is no reason for anyone not to come. All cars are welcome regardless of condition (so thats no excuse either ;) )

Will be good to see you there in the Maestro BikerGran :)

Wish my brother had his Austin on the road - a very old Austin 7 'Special' with a racing engine. Unfortunately the engine and car are seperate atm and are unlikely to be reunited as his health isnt really good enough, but he's always going to do it 'soon' !

Just an update on facilities available for the campers:

toilets,
showers,
security (the venue will be fenced in but not 'fort knox' secure) with visible security patrols,
beer tent and
catering on site.

Also available locally, a few pubs and a paper shop. Passes will allow us to get on and off site, whether in cars or on foot.

There is also the Black Tie Dinner on the friday night (£45 a head, limited tickets) and an Ox Roast on the saturday night provided by the organisers.

We will also be having the club's usual BBQs, both nights if people want them.

Applications forms for the event and camping will be distributed in the next edition of Monstro.

There is a Austin Federation meeting this weekend, so we will know more on how it may be affected after this.

Having just seen the agenda and newsletter for the Austin Federation AGM (which is this saturday), I can assure you all 100% the Austin Centenary is going ahead as planned.

So please send your entry and camping forms in to Zoe. :)

The photoshoot for the cavalcade cars is also going ahead this saturday, but at 1pm and not 1.30. I will email and PM the people who need to know the details on this, tonight.

16th April 2005, 23:55
Further to what I said above, the Austin Centenary Event is going 'full steam ahead'. :)

It was a good Austin Federation meeting. Main news is that the Event is intended as a Celebration of the 100 years of the Austin name on cars and not a wake for the events of the last few years that have led to the passing of MG Rover.

There was also a photoshoot prior to the meeting, some photos can be seen here (http://vbapex.shacknet.nu/mini/20050416-longbridge/lon20050416.html). The guy directing traffic is me (in DSCF0005.jpg and DSCF0011.avi, as far as I can tell  ), which wasn't something I expected to be doing today! Thanks to Montyboy and Steve Smith for travelling several hundred miles in total to be there  .

The Austin name is obviously in good hands :) .

Being my most disorganised self as usual, is there still space available for camping and where can I download the forms? A friend is coming and bringing his Marquee tent so will need two pitches if this is possible? We'll be bringing K334 RRL (Countryman) and D648 PVW (Silver 1.6HL) who hasn't yet made her show debut.

Beaker
18th April 2005, 13:24
For everyones benefit :-

The Austin Centenary Information has been on the website for ages now, including adverts for it on the main page. (www.maestro.org.uk). Please take time to read as it is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I hope everyone who reads decides they have to be there. The hotel information and directions are still yet to be put up, however if you need information about local bed and breakfasts/hotels in the area please contact Rich Smith.

Camping is planned for both nights, and we have booked plenty of spaces for people. There will be a BBQ planned for both nights. There is also a Black Tie dinner (see the austin centenary info) which we need to know numbers for ASAP.

Forms need to be in by 1st June and sent to Zoe Waterfield

Information on all this will also be in the next edition of Monstro (which is due out very soon)

Mine has come too. Very good read!

Ok, who's ready for a complicated question? I have filled in the entry form for the Centenary and included the details for my silver Monty HL which i will be bringing. I have sent a cheque with the form to Zoe covering the two night camping and for the silver car.

Now...

As my Countryman is in the official line up of cars, do I need to send Zoe an additional £5? I have received a letter from Chris Tallents from the Federation of Austin Clubs which asks for the £5, so is that what I need to do, send the £5 for the Countryman direct to him? Sorry guys! I'm confused! Have I done everything right??

Beaker
13th May 2005, 13:55
Yes you need to pay an additional £5 to Chris Tallents for taken part in the Calvacade.

As I understand it, it was initially to be free but they haven't secured enough funding so have to charge a nominal fee. However people taking part in the Calvacade get a plaque that no-one else will have.

You have me thinking now though, was it additional or was it just £5 for the car for the whole weekend. As I have also sent monies for the car to Zoe for camping, etc and £5 to Chris Tallents. Rich Smith will know as he has attended the Austin Fed meetings and taken notes.

Edit:- I read the letter as sending the money to Chris Tallents.

Ed it also worth noting...

I emailed Chris Tallents to find out if I send him pictures via email. It is possible too so I sent some high quality images that way (in my case all the pictures are on digital camera) including the write up, and my cheque through the post.

Thats what I was worried about, sending two lots of £5's for the Countryman, but I'll just send it to Chris and that means the cheque I sent Zoe is correct for the HL.

I'll also have to e-mail my pictures as thats the only way I can provide pictures at the moment.

Phew, all sorted. :)

Jonathan
13th May 2005, 20:35
I can confirm that there is an additional fee payable for cavalcade vehicles as Chris' letter advises. Based on what I've been told your Countryman will be parked with the other 110 or so cavalcade vehicles in a separate area on the showground itself, rather than being with our club paddock.

I hope the reduced size forms that went out by post weren't too small to fill in without a magnifying glass :)

I was starting to wonder which Maestro and Montego I would expect in the cavalcade... Mine is not there I know for sure, since I will be bringing another car, which in turn will be taking part in the run :)

If anyone of you comes to the Enfield Pageand in 2 weeks time, I'll be there in the ADO16 corner, with the nice, deep blue VP1300 shown below.
Before the show this little beauty will have to take us all the way to Land's End :) - starting on Monday.

I just put the specification of Vanden Plas in for mine, the form was designed as a general one, so includes the older austins which would have had a coach builder I guess? (Sorry I know nothing about old Austins :o )

Doublechecked the the form, yup just the £10 if you are only camping one night, sent to Zoe.

Any members car is welcome be it MG, Austin or Rover and in any condition. I hope nobody thinks they can't come because their car isn't up to scratch, I have taken George to many a show and even my first one, and for anyone who has seen him he certainly isn't in good condition bodywork wise. I have always felt welcome.

I am sure someone will lend you a tent (Rich Smith has tons of them for some reason :suspect: ) or suggest a place where one can be got cheaply.

Good News! :toothy: Recieved Monstro on Saturday Morning, so should be with you shortly.

With regards to the stand we will have a stand area allocated to us, which we put a gazebo on and we park the cars around as and when people arrive for shows. We plan to have it more organised this year for such a special event and put on a display to be proud off. So for people arriving on the friday and camping please feel free to help us set up.

We hope to have an interactive area for the Montego 'Coming of Age', which I have just been working on outside with Dan until it rained. A point of sale area, where everyone can purchase regalia items. A noticeboard, which will contain press photos, information about the car, etc for people visiting the stand, oh and some funky signs and banners, including the bunting in Austin-Rover colours ;)

Camping is seperate for the Show field, so we will be able to leave our tents up and there is some security for the camping field as well.

There are some directions on the website, but perhaps it would be good if could arrange some convoys for those coming from the south and north? I know for myself I plan to get down there for about lunchtime to make sure there is plenty of time to organise the stand, set up in the camping area and get the barby ready for the evening. What has happened in the past with regards to the barbeque is we buy everything in one bulk lot and we all put in a sum to cover the costs. Not sure if it is working the same this time, but I am sure Rich Smith will have it organised.

I wouldn't worry about tickets yet, as the deadline was the 1st June for the application forms, which then have to be forwarded to the organisers who will sort it out from there. I don't even have directions or times for the calavacade yet so not to worry.

Any more questions feel free to ask :)

Best Customized - Not Chavs, it is for peeps who love their classics but like to change things from standard, maybe upgrade the specification. small things here and there. I had in my mind something like Daves old LX, now that was nice especially the MP3 player that was the mark one tho', people need to see the mark two in the 800.

Pride Of Ownership - For those who really love their car, irrelevant of condition and take pride in it.

good news.....i have convinced my dad to drive me to this event and we will camp out the saturday night and return home on the sunday. i will be able to meet some faces to go with the names i know from this site!

bad news.....we will be coming in a citroen xantia estate  . this is what we will be sleeping in as it is huge.

will we actually be welcome into the event in a non austin/british leyland/rover/mg car  ?

ive got a feeling we might get :shoot: attending an austin centenary in a french motor.

also i want to say a massive thanks to bikergran who was going to try to wedge me into her car along with loads of luggage. (im not small, and i like pies/larger)

...

Well, therein lies a tale...

Many of the owners of the older Austins will be towing their Austins behind modern cars and they will have to park their modern cars as well. Now I am not sure if the parking for the moderns towing classics will be in the camping area or elsewhere, but I cannot see a problem in this. I am sure we can tuck the Xantia into a corner of our camping area as you will be sleeping in it and the camping area is a slightly different area of the park to the actual show (it won't be seen as part of the event).

There will also be at least one Maestro Camper in our camping area - that will also be on the stand during the day then moving back to the camping area at night.

I shouldn't worry about it :) .

The only thing is, it will cost you (we will have to 'wangle' it into the camping area), I guess the same rates as a camper van, to sleep in the car. I know that the 'prebooked' rates were very good, but I will have to look into what it will cost you (still be cheap for a weekend away though) - try looking in the Events Diary on our website for the Austin Centenary then visit their homepage. If you can't find the information I will email the Organisers for you.

If anyone else expects to be attending in a 'modern' please can they let us know (you can PM or email me if you'd rather not publish it here)? I know of one other member who will probably be in an Astra, so far. I can then email the Organisers and find out where these 'moderns' will be parked. :)

I went to the pre-event meeting at Longbridge this afternoon which threw up a few bits & pieces that might interest some of you...

Trailers/Support vehicles will either end up on part of the campsite area or in a secure area on MGR land depending on whether the administrators will allow it. When we know what the arrangements are for definate we'll pass that info on. If I were you Ben, I'd class your Xantia as a motor caravan and book yourselves in for a night's camping and a couple of entry passes for the show itself.

I'm sorry to say any plans for the traditional barbecue at this event have been somewhat scuppered by Birmingham City Council Parks Department's no barbecue policy, no camp fires and no anything else which might potentially cause a fire. I wasn't aware of this until today, but we'll find an alternative. There will be a hog roast too.

If you were an MG Rover employee until recently, you'll get heavily discounted entry to the show (£2 instead of £6).

Assistance in Victoria Square at the start of the cavalcade on the Saturday is being sought. Volunteers will need to be there for 6:30 am to help set up the barriers etc. and marshal the cars into order ready for dispatch. There will be a need to guide the cars towards the main road as well. After the last car has departed (by about 11am) there will be a small amount of clearing up. If anyone here feels they'd like to help with that let me know.

If there are any further questions about anything we'll try and get answers to them for you. http://www.maestro.org.uk/events/centenary/ will be kept up to date with the latest information wherever possible.

......bikergran who was going to try to wedge me into her car along with loads of luggage:

However huge, cars are not very comfy for sleeping in, they're usually either too hot or too cold, too stuffy or too draughty, and they fill up with condensation! As we'll be using our frame tent, I could easily throw in my little two-man dome tent for you to use?

would i be able to bring my own little gas camping cooker ? ;)

Nice try but I fear that, although bringing it would harm none, lighting it would fall into the category of things that might potentially start a fire. It's a bit of a backward-thinking policy, if you ask me: barbecues more than 12" off the ground are acceptable at pretty much all campsites across the UK, even those that ban low disposable barbecues and camp fires.

Beaker
20th June 2005, 16:45
Personally I don't see how they can have the hog roast too as it will involve fire to cook it.

I know as much as you guys folks on this I am afraid  , there is a committee meeting next weekend so I guess we will sort something out.

It does seem silly not to allow anyone to eat and drink anything all weekend unless it is cold and comes in a packet or bottle ready to eat. or maybe Jon has got his wires crossed on how severely they meant 'nothing which will start a fire'?

I could see the reasoning on no disposal barbeques and camp fire as it will make a complete mess of the parkland area.

BikerGran
20th June 2005, 19:14
Well I have to say that I shall do a Nelson on this one, there's no way I am camping without the wherewithal to make a cuppa tea!

Jonathan
20th June 2005, 19:31
Barbecues were specifically mentioned at the meeting. I think it's perhaps a little bit harsh too and I don't like to be a 'killjoy', but if the rules in place on the rally field prohibit something there's very little we can do. If something does happen, however unlikely, the federation of clubs will be liable and the kicking passed on to us, so I wouldn't like to risk it. I'll seek clarification of this and the alternatives in the next week or so and report back. I'm sure there'll be a way around it without risking getting ourselves into trouble :)

The price list is Here (http://www.maestro.org.uk/temp/Regaliapricelist.pdf), also avaliable is

The Radio Code Stickers that go in the side window, Supercover stickers (on order at the moment), and some new cheesy ones. 'I Love (shape of a heart) my maestro' , 'My other car is a montego' and 'My other car is a Maestro' and hoodies.

With regards clothing, it is ordered in so if anyone wants anything let tony know, and he might still be able to get it for the event. White Polos are avaliable by the bucket load all weekend though.

Jonathan

In reply to a couple of queries about the camping side of things, I've made enquiries on your behalf.

BARBECUES

I can confirm these are still no go / 100% banned / out of the question. HOWEVER, that only applies to the traditional type with hot coals which could be knocked over onto the probably tinder dry grass with catastrophic results. A gas cooker or primus which can be switched off when the cooking is over is acceptable if used with care, so hot drinks / food should still be possible afterall.

CAMPING AREA

Some of you were concerned that we may not be able to pitch tents together. For organisational reasons it won't be possible for us to reserve our own area of the camping area so there's no guarantee we'll all stay together. It has been suggested to me that we either try to arrive together or try to reserve some places in the same area.

I hope this clears things up a bit more!

Also just to re-iterate what has been said previously

Although the title says 'Austin Centenary' the event is FOR ALL Austin/Rover/MG Maestros and Montegos

I mention this as I have had a couple of people saying they can't go as they have a MG and not an Austin this is not the case everyone is welcome regardless of marque

The same goes for MG Saloon Day too all Austins and Rovers are welcome.

Actually nobody has been sent tickets yet, quite simply because the organisers have yet to send us any! Because most of our entries only reached us at the very last minute, the club's application went in late which delayed things a little. That was three weeks ago now though and Zoe (events coordinator) is chasing up the passes, which she'll distribute early next week - I hope!

If you're reading this, wanting to join in but haven't yet applied for a pass it really is too late now I'm afraid - you'll still be able to pay your £6 on the day at the gate though.

You'll get a camping spot for whichever nights you've paid for one, if that's what you mean. I'd imagine whatever spot you take up on Friday night you've automatically got for the Saturday too.

I'm told the passes for the show and camping went in the post today.

Cool, hopefully mine will be at home on the doormat.

I am hoping to arrive 1/2ish Friday Afternoon with the rest of the committee (we have lots of stand equipment this year) to set up the stand, any help from other people arriving around this time would be much appreciated as we need plenty of ideas for layout and help getting everything right. This way the rest of the evening can be spent having fun.

Hopefully we should have a spare gazebo for the camping area too *keeps fingers crossed*

I don't know on the moving car front, I just assumed we would all move our cars back to the camping area, well we had better do as there are three campers that will need to be moved to be slept in and I am sure some of us will want to escape to go to the local supermarket, etc.

Please take up more room than you need to in the camping area on Friday to allow for a two man tent to be pitched at about 20.30 and a pair of Austins Maestro full of beer and Pringles...

I wish I had a VP! If I did, I would certainly be bringing it. I'd like passionwagons but I can't afford, or have the room for it at the moment :hide: .

I'm bringing the Countryman, which I am hoping will be looking its best in time as its in the calvalcade. I'll also be bringing my silver HL Monty which I am not worried about as I know that'll clean up in time.

Will be good to see you again Simon! I assume you'll be bringing Joe?

Tell me about it, I have to go to Cheshire to pick my new bumper up (many thanks to Maisie for spraying one up for me), fit chrome trim to it, then swap it over. Change mudflaps around, smarten up rear windscreen wiper, full clay, followed by some coats of wax, then get the metal polish out. Then it is toothbrush time on the engine bay, then time to swap the wheels over. All to be done on thursday it is going to be a very long day indeed. I just am paranoid about my new wheel trims getting stone chipped on the way down now.

For those of you who are thinking, christ I am not going to go to that much effort, don't worry I wouldn't normally but mine is in the calvacade so needs to be A1.

I seriously think I'm going to have a nervous breakdown as I have to do all this while working 9 to 5, can't get any time off  . I just hope the car looks good to everybody. Perhaps I'm just panicking a bit but as its my A to B car, I'm worried it will not look as good as it should.

Concourse is not necessary, Dean - if it were, we would have a very empty stand, and that is not what this, or any other show we go to is about. We are proud of the wide variety of cars we get. People find it just as interesting to admire a well used workhorse, as they do a showroom example.

We will find room for everyone on the day.

The more cars on the stand, the merrier, at this unique event, regardless of condition :) . Only thing is that if they are driven at the venue they must be road legal (taxed, insured and MoTd).

We anticipated there might be quite a few more cars on the weekend itself than the number of tickets booked in advance indicated...

If you haven't pre-booked and would like to come along on either day and pay on the gate we'll look forward to seeing you. Obviously if numbers overshoot those we submitted to the organisers last month by too much there's no guarantee there'll be space, but I don't think it'll be an issue and we'll endeavour to fit everyone in.

See you on Saturday ;)

As Jon has said we did anticipate this back in January and submitted a size of stand best on our estimate of cars. (Which was a very very large estimate) Please please none of you think your car is not worthy or space is a premium (the truth on that one is we just don't know till we get there but we have asked for plenty as mentioned above so everything should be fine) we want every club members car on the stand regardless of condition I am hoping to have a display to be proud off (our biggest stand to date). When you pay at the entrance let them know you are with the Maestro and Montego Owners Club and they will direct you to the stand. All I ask is please make sure you are there before 10 am on either day.

I look forward to seeing people on Saturday and Sunday, and if you are still ummming and ahing on whether to come. Just come it is a once in a lifetime event we would love to see you and the car, and it should be an enjoyable and fantastic weekend/day.

Great to know the club stand is gonna be a biggie. Ive known about this show for a while, well, since before it was only an idea and not confermed (my dads the spares man for the maxi owners club and you cant really get away from the subject of this show when he gets started (ive got a maxi as well, but its a solid, tax free mess undergoing a rolling restoration - it'll be at the Peterborough show), but its not really untill now that ive realised what a monster this show is going to be! It really will be fantastic to have a huge turnout of maestros and montegos at a show like this. I cant wait :woohoo:
I really really really really hope it doesnt rain tomorrow otherwise i could be comming up with a dirty car. It took me up to Hereford (from Reigate, Surrey) which was a bit of a mission, to collect a set of wheels for the maxi on monday and it pissed down all the way there and all the way back. Its filthy. Anyway, back to the subject - see you all saturday!

Monty's unwashed, unpolished and unvaleted - in fact I've just spent another hour refixing the driveshaft that I refixed last week after it fell off in the car park at work :o , so he'll be as mucky as he was at MGSD last weekend.

All cars are welcome, regardless of condition, as stated above (and blimey, Monty's not in his first flush of youth  ) - only thing is that they are road legal. It will be good to see as many of you and your cars as can attend :) .

We will all be in the'camping area', but it seems to be 'first come first served' and not a designated area per club... but we'll know for definite tomorrow night!

A few people from Manchester are hoping to be there for around 12.30pm and to set up an area for us... basically, watch out for 2 Montegos and a Maestro, all blue, and come over and say 'hello'. If it's later in the day then there will be other Maestros and Montegos there too.. I am thinking of trying to set up where nobody else is so we can keep space as long as possible (if you know what I mean), but while we will have 'our space' with a camping table, chairs, munchies and drinks every evening, we may not all be able to camp together.

If you want to ring me at the venue, my number is 07761 342 179 (it's in Monstro under 'committee contacts' anyway) if you are struggling to find 'our space'.

Many thanks go out to everyone who gave the car tune up on saturday especialy montyboy(?), the car picks up much better now and used less fuel on the way home, 1/2 a tank, is that more realistic on a 160 mile trip?

It was an excellent weekend away, if a little hot on the Sunday. We were a little confused as to where our stand was on the Saturday morning, and some of us were not so impressed with the facilities available, but when you consider the Austin Federation organisers have never staged anything like this before - it was truly a fantastic and historic event.

I think I can safely say the M&MOC had one of the best Club stands there this weekend. A wide variety of cars on both days. Elsewhere in the show, it was great to see the hundreds of vintage Austin’s which tuned out as well as a vast amount of BMC and BL era stuff too!

Does anyone else’s knee still hurt from those bumper cars? :toothy:

For those who were not there, prizes were awarded by the Club for:

Best Montego (Ed's Montego HL)
Best Maestro (Linds' Maestro VDP)
Best Customised Car (maestromaxi - Forgot your name already! - MG Maestro 2.0i)
Pride of Ownership (Zoë’s Montego 1.6LX)

We had a wonderful weekend, I hated having to leave without putting Doris on the stand on Sunday but never mind. Was great to meet folks but I still haven't a clue which nick belongs to which person so it's really useful when people sign their posts with their name, which I shall do in future!

Many thanks to those who played with bits and pieces under Doris's bonnet, and particularly to Simon for fixing me up with an oil filler and breather pipe FOC!

What a lovely bunch of people ans we didn't once feel out of place cos we were rather older than the rest of you! Tho I did depart to my bed on Friday night when the talk got around to computer games and it all went whoosh straight over my head!

Thought I was gonna have a breakdown on the way home - we'd stopped in a layby where there was a miniscule amount of shade, just enuff so we didn't bake - and got a bit of a surprise when I started off again. She started fine, moved off no problem, but suddenly started losing power intermittently. Then just as suddenly it cleared - I would suspect dirt in the carb but it's never happened before - I wonder if the petrol wasn't getting thru cos it had vapourised somewhere while parked - cos the bonnet was in full sun. Anyway it didn't happen again and we had a great drive home. The exhaust is definitely blowing now as it's started doing a pop pop on the over-run, ah well, a minor problem really.

Thanks for the great welcome, we will definitely come to more events next year and I might even make Peterborough if the leg allows! Mike now thinks we should put a bit of effort into doing Doris up properly - correction, he thinks I should!

Good day had by me, enjoyed it. Thanks to all, well done Montyboy on winning the best Monty award, its a lovely car. Second the comment 'lots of Monty's at the show'. Takes me back so many years when they were common, excellent.
See you all soon

A stunning weekend full of great cars and good company. It was nice to see so many new faces. The organisation had a few problems but then with this being the first event they had organised and the sheer scale of it was a sight to behold, (for those that have been to BL/BMC in Peterborough it was about 10 times the size - the camping field alone was as full as the BL field!), it was never going to be absolutely perfect. I trust the club will send our members thanks to Tony and all of the organising team in the Austin Federation. Without their hard work none of this would have been possible.

The wide variety of cars and enthusiasts alike made it a very special weekend. The diehard determination of the swiss club was a sight to behold with a 4 day journey each way just to attend the show for the weekend showed just how much esteem our british cars still hold. Nicks club with no name stand was as usual immaculately turned out and had a good range of cars on the stand, as did most other clubs on display. The field was so large and the MMOC stand so busy I never did get around all of the clubs on display so I'll have to catch up by having a look at your photos so put them in the gallery please!

The auto jumble was pretty good with me spending far too much money as usual. The weather was glorious (if a little hot for me), and as usual there was a fair bit of food and merriment to be had in the evenings. Endless seconds of fun were had trying to play with simons ball and make it glow by rotating it in small circles. (Sorry you had to be there for that one!).
All in all a top class event which I'm proud the club attended and in such force you all did yourself proud and promoted the Maestro and Montego admirably. It was also nice to see the montys outnumbering the maestros too in thier 21st anniversary year. The CD's and other club regalia seemed to be selling well and plenty of new memberships were taken and promised.

Thank you to everyone who attended and made the event truely worthy of the austin name.
