What is your favourite Maestro/Montego model?
Mine is the MG Maestro 2.0i:

I can do without the grief of 'sorting another car out' as one always has to do when one gets a new car (new meaning new to you ).
I'm more-than happy with Monty, we've been through a hell of a lot together this last 6 1/2 years.
I don't normally subscribe to the 'put all your eggs in one basket' schiool of thought, being a natural cynic, but I have put all my motoring eggs in one basket (figuratively...) - Monty.
As Monty has served me so well, and continues to do so, I intend keeping him for ever. I guess I'm all-but attached to him...
Anyone come up with any more-wishy-washy reasons than these?

Good on you Rich! I also intend to keep my car forever - it is my first car but I shall just shove it in a shed/garage under a cover no matter what condition it is in as a piece of nostalgia.:)
I'm torn between the turbo and the VDP/Mayfair. I think a car like the charcoal one in the picture would be my ideal turbo with a 16v 2.0 engine and Monty VDP alloys kept standard otherwise for subtlety.:D
Where have the lime green metallic Maestros gone?:(

Hmm...tough one. I like them all! I like the pace of the 2.0i, I like the sheer torque and cruising capabilities of the 2.0TD, I like the 4500RPM growl of the 1.6 S series under load, I like the MG1600's because they're...I don't know..but I like them..:)
I like the 1.3, because it's easier to shut the darn tappets up..! Why was there never a 1.3 auto? :banghead:
The turbo is a class apart..:)
Now, if I could get a K reg 2.0TD, with sports exhaust for the note, 2.0i body and alloys, and an automatic gearbox, then I could fit my digi dash and I'd be happy..;)
I like monty's too...but my favourite one would HAVE to be the estate..:) My brother owns a Volvo 850T5 estate...I'd like something with a touch more..class...

If you look on the back page of the Daily Star, very last sentence thre's a Maestro being bought for 24 Million pounds, sadly it's just a footballer!
I prefer the real thing.

I'm not averse to modifying my Monty, though. Am about to get my VDP wheels refurbished and then fit the new remoulds from Tyron. Have done other mods - see the next edition of Monstro for latest ones - as well. I'm just all-but-attached to the soul of Monty himself... he doesn't mind being fettled... (oo-er)

My favourite apart from the Turbo of course has to be the EFi/2.0i. No other car comes close to being a perfect all-rounder.

My 2 faves are
The VP, in silver as mine is - you can't beat coming outside on a sunny day to a shiny silver car with the sun glinting off all the chrome on the outside and gleaming off the wood inside :) Just wish mine was still that shiny *sob* :(
The camper - such versatility, ingenious use of space and rarity!

I quite like the 1.6 Advantage especially in black. Interior's quite basic though, not like mine with new headlining! Now that's what I call luxury...

I like all the MGs - particularly the Tickford Turbo! - but am definitely partisan toward the Vanden Plas. I am very fond of the shiny grille, mirror-backs and handles, the walnut trim, the tweedy brown interior and will be sad if I ever have to own a car without a digital dash again... I also love the R series engine in my car - it is much more torquey than the S Series and really jumps forward when you put your foot down in the lower gears and it is extremely quiet - you can hear the sound of wheels on road louder than the engine when cruising down the motorway.
I have a real soft spot for the 1.3L though. Having owned two, I think they are just about the perfect first (and second!) car and definitely the perfect student car. They hold their own on the motorway despite the screeching engine and you can fling them round corners. They have a great deal more personality than most cars. Finally, the 1.3 is the only engine with an oil filter in a sensible place - you can just reach down and unscrew it by hand.

Dunno about the oil filter, i always found it was a bugger to remove because the oil always dripped down, and the same when fitting a new one, as i ALWAYS prime a filter.
I haven't always been spoilt with power. I was in a 1.3 as well for 3 years before i had the Turbo and i never had any complaints. The fact the A series coped so well with a big body (albeit not heavy) was surprising, it would hold its own against 1.6 cars including Orion Injection Ghias, would rev to 6500rpm with no valve bounce, handled sweetly with bigger wheels and tyres, and was cheap to run. Many would be fooled when i took them out in it, saying was it a 1600! Praise indeed when it was 4 up. For me, the 1.6 wasn't that much faster, and i'd take a 1.3 over a 1.6 anyday.

The Diesel van. Has to be the Maestro's finest hour. I'm onto my second, M reg, Montego interior 2 stage injectors. Fantastic.
