Unfortunatly, my car has to live outside and is parked on a sloped driveway. Today when i went outside after it had stopped raining, i opened the car door and bucketfulls of water poured out of the inside of the door. This happened on all four doors when i opened them. I would like to know how the water got inside the doors in the first place, and what i can do to stop it. The interior is not damp, so the rain cannot get inside the car, just inside the doors. The water pours from a hole underneath the door at the bottom.

Does it have anything to do with the car being parked on a slope or is there another way it can get in? Does anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like the window seals are letting rainwater into the doors. I remember in another post you mentioned the interior door panel was coming away. This might be half your problem. But hey, I'm no expert!

Upon further inspection, the outside door seals on the front two doors does not extend all the way to the wing mirrors, and leaves a hole where i presume the water is getting in. I cannot find a gap in the seals on the rear doors, but it may be a similar problem. How do i go about getting/fitting new seals that will be 100% watertight?

It is perfectly normal for water to get inside the doors. If you look underneath there are drain holes to let it out. Of course it isn't an ideal situation and that is why they rot from the inside out. You might try freshening the seals on the windows but I'm afriad they all do that, (at least the ones I have seen do).

Who came up with the idea to let water run through the doors? why not just put on a good seal in the first place?

It'd be neigh impossible to make a perfect seal, and anyway if it was that tight then the windows would be very difficult to open and close.

On my 1.3L I had the same problem of the seals not going all the way to the mirrors. I glued some bicycle unnertube there because it looked like the hole was directly above the new speakers I had installed.

Water in the doors is nothing to worry about as long as you make sure that the polyethene liner is intact and sealed correctly so that your door cards don't get damp.

The other thing is make sure that you've waxoyled the bottoms of the doors really well. In particularly really work it into that seam where the front skin meets the back, and also right into the corners. I used a paint brush for this rather than the spray. You can also use nice gloopy old engine oil.

I've got the door cards off F153 at the moment and as I was sitting in traffic in a torrential downpour yesterday I was surprised by how much water was dripping down there. Made me realise just how important it is to rust proof.
