First off, hello everyone!

I have a 1.7 O Series engine, and am looking for a carb upgrade. Does the O share a manifold set up with any other Austin/Rover cars? I'm looking to use a single dellorto 40 that I have lying around for an extra bit of beef.

Cheers! :D

Welcome to the forums.

The O series as far as I was aware was only in 2 litre form, (when used in the maestro or montego that is). In these cars it either had a single SU carb (In normally aspirated or turbo form) and electronic fuel injection in the normally aspirated MG models.

There was a version of the 1600 S series engine which used twin webber carburettors as standard.

is this the same 1.7 used in the Ambassador/ Princess and also the Ital ? IIRC they were O series - and therefore there should be some commonality with 2 litre carb model Montegos and maybe some Sherpa vans too.

hi there,

dont forget that the engine used in cars like the ital and marina and also in the princess/ambassador used a different head to the one on the montego o series, the head porting also changed, so nothing that fits on a monty will fit on these o series cars. steve.

Also they will be longitudinally mounted as opposed to transverse.
Just do the full 2 litre turbo swap. I'm sure I saw it done many years ago in an ital or marina.

Also, when used for the first time in Montego, the head was turned thru 180 degrees so the exhaust remained on the rear of the engine.....

But Sherpa, Rover 2000, Ital, Marina, Princess, Ambassador should be your best bet. Fit a 2000 engine from the above, Rover 2000 will have twin carbs. They also did (now very rare) Ital 2000 Auto.

I refer to Rover 2000 as the SD1....
