Rusty bumper is no more!

I finally got myself a new front bumper for my car from a scrapyard in Bolton. After a sand down and a respray, it looks like new!

Needless to say, i am very chuffed with the result!

Wa - hey! Brilliant! :) Do you mind if I ask how much that set you back, Rich?

P.S: I see you have painted the front panel behind the bumper...

To buy the bumper plus a few other bits and bobs was £20, plus a couple more quid for paint.

I am going to do the rear bumper tomorrow....

Concidering i have never had any experiance with spraying car parts before - i really am pleased with how things have turned out. It makes my car that bit less of the shed it used to be! ;) You are quite right, Stephen - you cant argue for £20 and a good afternoons work compared to £130!!!!

A nice full-shot of the new bumper!

You noticed eh? I quite prefer the Austin Logo to the plain "Maestro" badge. I have a bit of a collection now anyway so i can change between them when i want to. Aswell as the Austin one, there is a Maestro one and also a body-coloured white one! (which looks better than the silver ones!)

Obviously owning a Maestro can develop into quite a serious illness!

Hey thats an excellent bumer.. looks so mucb better! Well done!

I tried the same in my 1.3 a few years back, but didnt have a lot of time, rushed it.. and the top coat sagged and cracked, which certainly did look as good as yours does! So, i resorted to coating them with old engine oil to make them look blacker, the same with the plastic parts of the bumper.. works for a while.. but it seems to attract the lies of dead flies! :banghead:

I agree, the new bumper looks very nice and a nice spray job you've done on it to it finishes the front of the car nicely. Mine look rubbish with dents and knocks in them, they are from the previous own I may add but I will not change them as have got plastic bumpers to go on.

Be prepared for a lot of swearing when you put on the rear plastic bumper! Make absolutely sure it isn't rubbing any paint away where it is secured at the sides also - I found the side mountings for the metal bumpers could not be matched up to the plastic bumper so the best thing to do probably is to put on some pads to combat friction or cut the bumper/weld on different mountings.

PS:That bumper takes years off your car RD Gelder! My brother backed into mine :( so at that point I fitted some ordinary plastic ones from a scrap VDP car I had along with the wings but then came across the replica Tickford kit and I was so tempted to buy it!

Bumpers look fab - as does that bonnet edge where they often get stonechips.

There's three badges as far as I can remember. Earliest cars have the blue logo with no words, then they started using a badge with a longer green and blue logo and "AUSTIN" written on it. Finally the post Austin Maestros had a plain black badge with just "MAESTRO" written across it.

- Here, here! ;)

Without wanting to sound very sad but I believe there was another badge between the Austin and the last black plain badges. IIRC there was one similar to the Austin badge with the Austin Rover logo in the background but said Maestro on it instead of Austin.

I was going to mention that but I wasn't 100% sure that it was not my imagination. I think they did the Austin logo with Metro, Maestro and Montego on for a period. I have only had one Austin Maestro which was a 1983 model - my last three Maestros have all been MGs

That's the badge I've got.
