Where can I get, and how much is a water pump likely to be for my 2.0 diesel normally aspirated '92 Maestro? I think it uses the same pump as the turbo diesel.
I went to Halfords (don't normally use them as they are quite expensive but they were open late and I went past) and the parts desk geezer looked it up on the computer and said they can't even order them in! I am loathe to go to Rover as I'm sure it'll be expensive.
Where can I get one? And how much is it likely to be?

Is the water pump the one where it is part of the engine mounts? If so then it isn't cheap at probably £65-80 quid. If it is the one that isn't part of the engine mount then it is significantly cheaper.

It's the expensive part of the engine mount type. Do you know where I can get one?

Hi,
The turbo ones are different I think they are the ones without the mount, I would sujest a motor factors such as Cat Components, AJ Autoparts or Lenco Motorspares - ring 118 and find out what ones are near to you, dont get one from a scrapyard as it will allready be very worn - when you buy the pump get a timing belt as well as you will need to change this at the same time - the haynes manual is quite detailed on this. - hope this helps.

The turbo diesels do have the oone that is part of the engine mount, or at least my one does.
Take a look in the yellow pages for your local motorfactors. For a tip[ on finding a cheap local one look at the number plate of your local minicabs, (they go to the cheapest local motorfactor to get their square number plates made up), the place should be written in small print on the bottom of the plate, or at the very least its postcode.

I've been to a couple of motor factors now. One quoted me £140 :horror: for an FAI pump! The other, £99.99 :horror: for a QH pump!
It seems that I may have found the most expensive single part of the car.
Anyway, some radweld has miraculously stopped it leaking for now so I think I'll just look on Ebay and hope one comes up for sale before my pump implodes completely.

That price still seems a little steep. £75 quid is a good price to aim for as that is what my suppliers have quoted me and I know they are good.

It looks like there is one on ebay.
I haven't checked it it in detail- just glanced at the listing , but i think the listing is 1988> which will probably be the one you want. About £20 i think it was. It did have the O.E number as reference. I found it by typing in Maestro/ Montego Diesel

I've already seen it and asked the seller to send me a photo to be sure it's the same. If it is then it's got my name on it.
