Does anybody know where I can get a rear engine mount for a Montego Countryman Estate 2.0 (petrol) Auto,1994 (L). Been in touch with every scrap dealer and parts supplier I can think of, and all say I have no chance. Rover turned round and said it's no longer made, so i'm stuck :horror: .
Any help would be gr8 as this is the last job to do on this car to get it in tip top shape.
If anybody knows of another make of car that has roughly the same block mounting, I'm more than happy to adapt things to fit. :)
Many Thanks
Chris

Are the auto box mounts different to a manual one? I'm guessing they might be, but if they are the same then any maestro/monty diesel or petrol 2.0 will fit.
Alternativly can a machine shop make you one or repair your existing one?

Well after a great deal of hunting around, I managed to find a way round this problem. I removed the old mount and went to a parts dealer to try and find something that would fit. I ended up using a Ford Escort Mk 1-2 engine mount block, but with a bit of modification. Here is how I did it:
1/ remove old mount and cut away all rubber leaving the 2 metal end plates.
2/ Drill a 10mm hole in the centre of each of the old mounting plates.
3/ get the escort mount and sandwich it between the 2 end plates, passing the 2 escort mount studs through the 10mm holes. Then bolt it together with 2x13mm nuts on the escort mount studs.
4/ Once you are happy everything is in line and tightened down, weld the nuts to the end plates. Spot weld the end of the stud to lock it in place and grind off any stud left sticking out.
You now have a nice new rear engine mount that only costs £6.50 (price of escort mount) and about 30 mins of your time :) The rubber block size and load rating is exactly the same as the original, so this should last as long as a real rover part.
Fitted mine today and everything is tip top shape. No vibration coming through the car at all :) :) :)
Thought I would share this, as others may have the same problem when trying to get this engine mount

I don';t suppose you took any pictures did you along the way as that would definatly be a good "how to...." article to put onto the website for people in a similar position.

No I didn't, but if the members want a guide, I can produce an online one very easily. I do quite a bit of web graphics n design for a living, so that ain't a problem. I have quite a bit of work on at the moment, but will get one done ASAP :)

Yes that would be great. I can add it to the FAQ on here or we could put a link into the FAQ to somewhere on this website or your own, incase other members have a similar problem. As I always like to say, there is no use re-inventing the wheel.
Glad you got it sorted though!

Regret I have to echo this original post - does anyone know where I can get the rear engine mounting for my Maestro TD 2Litre?! I'm certainly not keen on all the modding above, never done welding,

Any engine mount for a 2.0 litre petrol or diesel montego or maestro will fit. I think they are no longer available from rover unfortunatly, but it may be worth asking on the off chance.
I also think some of the MG turbo lot were thinking of getting some made up by a company (as they are a common problem on the turbo cars) and these will fit yours too.

Yes the MGM group (http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgm/) are looking into getting the engine and gearbox mounts remanufactured. So hopefully there will be a positive outcome from the enquiries being made.

I dunno what happened there! (My previous post)
Is the engine mount you are talking about the one that fixes from the front subframe to the back of the geabox (diff. area-underneath the 'shaft).
It fits in between an alloy bracket which bolts to the engine back/adapter plate and the 'box.
Its a small length of bar with a cylindrical rubber bush at each end. (looks like the old mini style "dog bone")

A very long time ago it was said that the company was NOT interested in making these engine mounts for 2 litre petrol cars. Quite easy to mod them though.

Dan et al,
the mONTY TURBO DIESEL LOWER REAR MOUNT IS VERY (BUGGER THE CAPS LOCK) ((oooh I can say bugger !)) different visually from the EFi and Turbo models and IIRC there are extra mounting holes in the subframe for the extra bit, so they won't be interchangeable.

Ohhh I always thought that because they shared the same bottom end of the engine and the same gearbox that they'd be an easy swap, just the petrol models was a bit beefier. I'll have to have a closer look at my turbo and my camper now :D
My appologies if I've misled anyone.

Does it matter if theyre manual or auto? Ive found a 2 Litre petrol 20 miles away but mines a 2Litre Turbo Diesel Manual

I'm fairly sure the auto mounts would be different as it is a different gearbox. Diesel or TD maestro or montego mounts will definatly fit, I'll have to check on the petrol versions as MGDavids advice is usually very good and I've never actually swapped them over myself.

Dan, the turbodiesel mount includes a large stabiliser bar running between the bottom of the plate 'twixt block and gearbox and the rear crossmember of the subframe. I'm unsure if the actual mount is attached to this bar or whether they are separate as I didn't remove it all before scrapping the car, the whole lot was rather like the Exxon Valdez under there and the rubber would have been useless. There must be somebody on here who has removed both petrol and diesel types with manual gearboxes ?!? I do agree that auto boxes are most likely to have a different mount again.

I do wish I had taken some pics when I did mine. I will get a online guide done, but I am having problems finding pictures/drawings of the rear mount. If anybody has any I could use, please post a link to them.

We can take a picture for you, currently got a TD car with no engine in. Actually as I am typing this Dan (E_T_V) is fetching the camera and going outside to do it.
An online guide would be very good.

Well, I'm sorry to say my guide will only cover the automatic. That mount is totaly different to the one I fixed. The auto mount is a solid block of rubber sandwiched between the "U" shaped metal plates, with 2 studs coming out the top and bottom. Hope this quick drawing shows what I mean.
