Hi all,

I have started finally reassembling the MG, and I have got a far as mounting the carbs back onto the manifold. Only problem now is that I discover that I can only find one of the black spacer block thingies that sit between the carb and the manifold - does anyone have or know where I can get another one? If not, i have found an old Peugeot 405 carb one, which could be modified to fit (if I had to.....!)

While I'm here, anything I need to watch out for when I finally get it started again? I'm sure I remember when the Time Warp Maesty was being resurrected that the water pump was mentioned, but the MG has only been sat for about a year now, not the 17 the time warp had to wait!!

Thanks,

Ricky.

Is this spacer a webber-carb only part, or would one from an SU carb also fit?

I have a spare one on a spare SU inlet manifold that you can have, if it fits!

Your maesty is probably OK to be started after only a year. My current car (with R-Series engine) was left for a year before I took delivery of it and it started and ran perfectly.

Simon,

Unfortunately it is a weber only part, as it has the double barrels cut out of it as it sits under the carb. I cannot understand where it has gone, although I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be down to a certain German Shepherd who isn't laying a million miles away from here - he seems to have developed a taste for gaskets recently and when I last saw it it was with some of the gaskets I have..... :worried:
Still, I can modify the Peugeot item if I have to, I was just hoping that I wouldn't have to bodge it as per usual!

Thanks for the info on the R series, pretty much as I suspected, but I had better check that the spark plugs have not rotted away though like the bottom of my driver door and some of the length of the drip rail, I would post pictures (I know Matthew Semple would like to see it!) but at the moment they are far too distressing!!!!

Thanks,

Ricky.

I think I may have a used carb spacer in the boot of the Montego "shed" on the driveway. There is a set of carbs and mainfold well picked at for my rebuild....

If you've got one I would be eternally grateful, how much would you want for it? Would much rather have a proper one than have to modify a Peugeot one, could be a little messy, especially with my reputation!

Thinking about it, have you had any problems with the throttle interconnection screw? On my original set of carbs and the cannibalised ones I bought from eBay for spares, the locating ring thingy has become detached/unstuck from the plate which just allows the screw to turn and turn but goes nowhere! If you have a spare throttle interconnection arm with working screw as well lying around in your "shed" that you don't need then could you give me an idea of how much you'd want for that too? If not though, it can be done with the aid of pliers, so it isn't as life or death as the spacer!

Many many thanks,

Ricky.
