I am thinking of organising a small 'BL Rally' here in Manchester for all us in the North West region. If anyone has any ideas as to where we can 'hire' grounds to do this on, please let me know in email or PM. I will also like to hear your ideas for a 'tour' round the Manchester area too.
I will post a poll sometime so I can get an idea of what everyone wants.
More information will be given in a flyer later on if the idea takes off.

Steve.

A tour in the traffic jams of Manchester City Centre would be great:rolleyes: Seriously though...I would be up for a convoy/BL show around the Manchester area. All the shows seem to be too far away. May go to MGM next year.:)

Anyone like to start naming dates and Venues so we can get closer to organising something that is conveniant for everyone.

(Just out of interest - where in South Yorkshire are you in Tony?)

:)

Sounds like a good idea, might be up for that,as long as you'll let a brummie tag along:rolleyes:

D87 SMW
6th July 2003, 23:49
We'd let any Maestro and Montego owner tag along, won't we?

tony

i am in the little village of swinton, near rotherham south yourkshire, where god comes from:p

D87 SMW

Swinton? F170 lives two streets away from me and so he lives in a place called Swinton up my way!

tony
6th July 2003, 23:57
is that swindon ?

D87 SMW

I know what your thinking Stephen, its not the Swinton near Salford!!!

Tony, i was only asking as i have relatives that live in Aughton, past Herringthorpe.

tony
7th July 2003, 00:07
is that near doncaster

7th July 2003, 00:10
Yeah, I'm in favour, count me in!

Suggestions... well, Manchester has good driving roads on almost all sides, and there are Parks as well (Heaton Park, Lyme Park, Tatton Park) with some space.

I still fancy a good drive with a pub lunch in the middle as opposed to congregating somewhere for the day, but am open-minded enough to do the latter anyway. I fancy meeting some of you guys 'n' gals as opposed to communicating on the Forum in a written, time-lapse sort of way, all the time.

Mid-August-on will probably be best for me the way things are developing day-to-day at the mo - I'm moving house pretty soon (but don't know how soon which kind of makes immediate planning difficult).

The other other Rich. :banghead:

D87 SMW
7th July 2003, 00:14
Yeah, I think we'll have to cram all our Maestros' into a McDonalds car park at lunch time.
I think August could be a good time, I'm off school all that month anyway!
Heaton Park, Lyme Park, Tatton Park - These are some good suggestions, Rich. Thanks for that!

tony

garnada studios ,would be nice to see where that is as well as that little football club thats there

Six people listed at the mo. If anyone else is interested, let me know.

Another meastro from the sheffield area all being well.

If the event was in North Wales I'd be able to suggest a few venues, but in Manchester I'm at a loss.

D87 SMW
7th July 2003, 12:43
After browsing a few websites, Tatton Park sounds most promising for our Rally.
"Public events range from car shows, outdoor theatre and trade shows, to the magnificent Royal Horticultural Society Flower Show at Tatton Park."

What do you think?...

I'm much more inclined towards a 'drive' rather than a meet up at one specific area. There are lots of good roads around the NW area that would make for a really good day out.

D87 SMW
7th July 2003, 12:52
A run on the road will be on the list, but we will still need somewhere to show the cars at one point. More arrangements will be made later on.

e692wtt
7th July 2003, 13:48
How's about... a drive through north east Derbyshire to Chatsworth House (avoiding the A6 which is a pain to the north of Buxton) and back, taking in the scenery and setting our brakes on fire as we attempt to stop at the bottom of Winnat's Pass above Castleton, by the Blue John Cavern (tourist attraction - a bit dark and cold, but then it is several hundred feet underground... well worth a visit).

The other other Rich.

That sounds like it could be exciting! A good drive followed by a pub lunch maybe?

Anyone else interested in the drive Rich has suggested?

:p

D87 SMW

North East Derbyshire... means all us in Manchester wiil have to go to Tony's and Marias for them to join the convoy then. Not a bad idea that, Rich!

E_T_V
7th July 2003, 15:43
I'll be up for that so long as we don't have to go up the pass again as poor George would hate that hill! I remember stopping at the bottom of the hill on my motorbike and being rather embarrassed by the plumes of smoke rising from my wheels. I'll voluenteer to reccy the pubs in the area to sample which one is best! :)

There are a couple of show grounds around there too if you don't fancy Chatsworth.

D87 SMW
7th July 2003, 15:59
F170's favourite road is Manchester Road (A57) Through Snake Pass to Glossop. A tweak of the ol' carb and he'll manage it again no prob!

Maria

Hmm.... not sure Muddle would appreciate that!

e692wtt
7th July 2003, 23:32
23rd's fine for me.

How's about... when I go to Buxton (or further down the A6) I travel down the south west side of Glossop (A6016) from wherever (Hyde, Stalybridge - see where the Moors Murderers lived as we pass if you want...) and then down to Chapel-en-le Frith. From here we can pick up the A625 to Winnat's Pass etc. Then double back via Tideswell to the A6 south of Buxton. Stop at Bakewell for some Tarts (cakes, before you say it...), then to Chatsworth House, stop, dine etc, then faff around going east towards the far end of the Snake Pass (pick it up at Ladybower Reservoir/A6013 area?) and back to Glossop?

Not too far, but if we're taking our time, seeing the sights and so on, it'll fill a large chunk of the day.

Is the 23rd a Bank Holiday, that's my only thought. Does anyone care if it is? There'll be more people and slower traffic, that's all.

There are other, more-challenging, quieter roads (eg A635 and surrounding roads - the view from Holme Moss is astounding!) further north for the future.

Somebody else can organise us a field for a display at Chatsworth house though...

The other other Rich.:)

D87 SMW
7th July 2003, 23:33
Monday 25th August is Bank Holiday if this helps...

tony
7th July 2003, 23:35
any one got cb's we can all talk then?

e692wtt
7th July 2003, 23:59
I've got a couple of Radio Scanners, but of course these don't transmit...

I'd think each car would have a mobile phone owner, and someone could do a Road Book with accurate Instructions and Directions (but not Competition Timings, not on the first outing... ).

I always fancied a CB actually, they're fairly cheap as they are unfashionable. 10-9? Sad, I know... for a bonus prize, does anyone know what this actually means??? Now's your chance to give your age away!

That's a big 10-4 good buddy!!!

The other other Rich.

D87 SMW
8th July 2003, 00:05
Yeah, my dad has a radio scanner, he used to have a CB in his Rover 3500 at one point too.
Neither of us have any credit for our mobile phones, though.:banghead:
That's a good idea you have about the directions too, Rich! Maybe the person with the directions can be the lead car...

P.S: Have you been watching The Dukes Of Hazzard, Rich?

D87 SMW
8th July 2003, 00:11
Just had an idea - no need for somewhere like Tatton Park. Just a big car park would do, and you will find a few of those on a Bank Holdiay too. ;) :D

e692wtt
8th July 2003, 00:29
I've not seen the Dukes of Hazzard recently, I need me beauty sleep... enjoy it thoroughly. I used to be a 'radio marshal' on local and national Rallies (including the Network Q 'Rally of a little bit of South Wales' formerly known as the Lombard RAC Rally) and hope to get involved again soon now I have more time, hence comments about accurate directions...

We were proceeding down the M4 in a westerly direction despite the protests of everyone except the bloke with the alleged-directions. We were then informed that he had a World Atlas but couldn't find Cardiff which was a pity as that was where we were heading for and we were all looking forward to comfy beds... Cardiff was subsequently discovered under a crumb and we turned round and found Cardiff... and some very comfy beds... and some grub...

I can be the lead car, but it'll be more James Bond smokescreen than The Italian Job... I can provide directions though, quite readable (so I'm told).

The other other Rich.

D87 SMW
8th July 2003, 18:04
Hows about I come up to Bury, you join in and lead the Convoy to the next members place, then the next... until everyone is in the Convoy and then go on a scenic tour. Stop off for lunch somewhere, then gather together for the Show later on.

e692wtt
9th July 2003, 09:08
OK, or we could pick you up from Salford... house-to-house is an interesting idea. Let's give it a go.

Let's see. If we go in an anti-clockwise direction. Bury, Salford, Cheshire, Birmingham, Glossop, South Yorkshire, Sheffield.
At least it's not last one Tony...

e692wtt
9th July 2003, 17:28
Well, can't the first to be picked up then, after the circuit is complete, be the first to be dropped off, so we all see the route? Most of the route will be in convoy anyway...

Just a thought

The other other Rich.:)

tony
9th July 2003, 17:32
i think that i will come over there and meet up somwhere,u dont know my neighbours they dont appreciate our cars like we do ,besides i live down a cul-de-sack we would have a traffick jam:( :)

D87 SMW

i vote to meet at e692wtt ,perhapes we can have a poll,:)

Maria
9th July 2003, 19:32
Well, we'd be hoiking Muddle out of an industrial unit in Hyde rather than actually being in Glossop, so the industrial estate might be a good place to meet up. It's not far off the M67.

D87 SMW
9th July 2003, 19:41

e692wtt
9th July 2003, 22:34
Meeting at Hyde probably makes most sense as it has good motorway links for everyone and means no need to navigate several towns, which, let's be honest, ain't really the point, is it?

I've suggested my route but I'll be happy if we do it at some unspecified time in the future and not on the first go. I've got other ideas as well, one of which I've hinted at in a previous reply.

The other other Rich.

e692wtt
9th July 2003, 23:15
Tony, we'll call for you!! Re the date, can we have a poll for the three days of this weekend we are planning, then take it from there? In a group of people there will always be difficulties for some of them getting 'time out' to do something, unfortunately. Or a poll for this 3 day weekend and the previous weekend as well? I'd do the poll, but I'm in at 8am tomorrow and don't fancy a journey into the unknown between now and then.

On these polls, can subscribers 'nominate' more than one of the 'values' being voted for, or is it a 'one vote per visit to poll' protocol? (Can't you tell I'm knackered, bandying words like this about?)

Just asking...

The other other Rich.

Austin-Rover
9th July 2003, 23:19
Can we have a summary of what we have organised so far? Ie: A definate meeting place etc so we can finalise on smaller details.

:p

Rich, Have you decided if you would like to use Aggie or are you taking Monty?

e692wtt
9th July 2003, 23:34
Richard, I would be pleased to drive Aggie for you and give him his inaugural run.

Can someone suggest any other routes, and are we aiming for a half day or full day? Just throw suggestions into the melting pot that is this Forum. Please! I'm sure we can double the existing 75 posts (including this one) or will we incur Jonathan's wrath?

We've got 6 weeks to sort it, I suggest meeting at Hyde and a circular tour in the Pennines from there, either north or south. We could divert into Cheshire to meet people, or to Yorkshire, or even both given a full day, and still get a day's run in. Mid-morning meet with a pub lunch at 1pm then finish at tea-time and go our seperate ways?

The other other Rich.

I'm ok sunday or monday. Open to suggestions. Mebbe because some people have booked the monday off, that would be better so as to (a) reward their efforts in organising time off, and (b) attempt to match their commitment to a particular day and 'the cause' at this early stage.

Any thoughts?

So. Is it final that on Sunday 24th August we all meet up at:

Unit O, Adamson's Industrial Estate, Croft St, Hyde. SK14 1EE

If anyone needs help finding this place, paste SK14 1EE into the search on www.multimap.com

Austin-Rover
11th July 2003, 22:28
Further to Skatiechick's idea of having an update on the Plan so-far, the following is a run down of what i think the best arrangement for the meet would be:

The day for the meet should be the Bank Holiday (25th) as people such as Tony have gone to extra lengths to ensure they wont be working that day! ;) and it could be the day that most people are available as it is a Holiday so there is less chance people could be asked to work.
The current meet up arrangements are in Hyde at the industrial estate where Muddle is kept a it is easy to acess.
The route seems to be the one which Rich suggested. Starting near Glossop - Chapel-en-le-Frith - Winnats Pass - Buxton - Bakewell (tarts) - Chatsworth House - Snake Pass form Ladybower Res. Hopefully, Rich, you have this route planned out, so perhaps you could perform the role of leader on the day so we dont get lost!

We have quite a while to finalise more specific details - but is everyone happy with the plan so far?

I'm happy with everything except the point I've quoted. Not sure if such a big run is such a good idea for our first attempt, ad I'm sure it could get a bit boring as time went on... unless we stop a few times for photoshoots...

The route seems ok, I dont think it will be too long. But it can always be shortened if needs be.

Would it be a good idea for people to meet in glossop rather than hyde or have two meeting points. I am just mentioning this because the ppl coming over from South Yorkshire will have to travel through glossop to get to hyde then double back on theirselves.

A good meeting place in glossop could be the 24hr Tescos. Plenty of parking space.

Also how are we going to plan the day. Start in the morning and go to a pub for lunch on the way somewhere, stop at chatsworth in the afternoon and hopefully get lot of ppl looking at our fine cars. Is this the sort of thing ppl had in mind?

Monday 25th August is absolutely fine with me, E_T_V and rusty george.

Sorry everyone, id love to be at this meet up with my VDP, but im right down in the South and have very little time currently, so could no way make the journey upto Derby. Count me in for the future though!

Ps, Someone told me today that theres to be a new Rover called the "zitippy" ??? Somehow i think this is a wind up!!!

I like the route. I think its good.

If you've made your minds up and can give me something 100% definite before the end of tomorrow I might be able to get a few words in Monstro for you. That way any other members in the North West without internet access will know what you're doing, otherwise you're looking at a forum only gathering.

Maria
12th July 2003, 16:03
Hmm.... 24th and 25th are a) MGOC race in Norfolk, and b) Touring Cars at Brands. Apparently the MGOC race is a double-header, which would be a 15 min race on Sunday and a 1 hour race on the Monday. I doubt WBM would be able to cope with 2 hours without getting hot and bothered and chucking most of his oil out, so that's most likely out of the question. Don't especially mind missing touring cars either. Monday would be OK but I can't say 100% yet - sorry :(

Very impressed with the comedian avators though. Can anyone, for no prize whatsoever, tell me what Rigsby's cat was called?

So it's Bank Holiday Monday, meet at unspecified place (aim for Tesco at Glossop as we're heading that way even if Maria cannot make it, as a firm commitment for 10am - ok?) and then head off. Plenty of stops for pics and so on (we'll see some really beautiful scenery, some of the best England can offer), a pub lunch (or a picnic? mebbe not) and hopefully a bit of a show (the picnic?) somewhere along the way. Then back at Glossop Tesco by 6pm (absolute latest) to all go home our separate ways.

How's that, Jonathan? Call it 'The Inaugural MMOC Northern Run' or '... North West Run' or something. Any suggestions, people? Anyone want to be a point of telephone contact for other interested parties?

Already have a name for the day - Manchester M Car Rally...
If Maria's coming along, then we will meet at Unit O, Adamson's Industrial Estate, Croft St, Hyde (SK14 1EE)
If however she isn't coming along, then we'll have to arrange somewhere else to meet.

Right, I'm losing me rag now.......:banghead:

Only kidding:laugh:. Good idea for a name for 'the day', that one, and how's about we meet at 10am at Tescos at Glossop as above irrespective of whether Maria is able to attend or not (the latter would be a shame) so we have plenty of room to park etc? Just need some directions for Tescos, that's all...

We need to get the details re meeting up, by the end of today (or am I a day late?) so that Jonathan can publish something in Monstro for us.

Jonathan said that the 'deadline for articles' was last monday, but says below that if we can get something together 'for the end of tomorrow' (which I hope is now today... it's been a long, long 42 hours!) he would hope to fit a small item in. So hopefully here goes!

Stephen, we can pick you up, either in person or with driver in F170, and then tootle down the A57 to Glossop if you like. Or the other way round... which would be quicker? Possibly the latter as we can pick up the M60 from Bury.

e692wtt
13th July 2003, 20:49
Getting back on track (ha ha, it's the way ya tell 'em  ) we will be going over the snake pass in at least one direction. My thinking was westwards to come back to Manchester having gone down Winnats Pass and then on in a Southerly and Easterly direction, as some people raised concerns that their cars may possibly struggle going up Winnats Pass - and it's a steep bit of road so these concerns are probably valid for at least some of our cars. Going down the Pass, I would recommend EBC Greenstuff brake pads... or an anchor on a bit of chain...

But yes Stephen, we can pick you up at Manchester and head east on the A57 to Glossop no problem at all. Come back that way as well if you like, right through from the Snake Pass.

I don't believe that the Underground's tracks are wide enough to accomodate our cars' front and rear axles - you'll probably find the track is wrong...

The other other Rich.

13th July 2003, 21:29
Right, we're going to Glossop on the A57. Maybe I could show the guy I bought F170 GGT from to show him what the car now looks like!
I have no idea where Winnats Pass is, but by the sound of it, I am not so sure it is a good idea. I heard there is a pretty good airfield/museum sort of thing of old aircraft, exhibits including a restored Handley Page Halifax named 'Friday 13th.'
This might detract from some of the event, but it would be an interesting place to go.

Beaker
13th July 2003, 21:54
Winnats pass isn't that bad. We have been up with ppl in the car and shagged engine. Car was pretty hot at the top mind. But it made it. The trick is to blast up it as quick as possible and not stop.

To be honest i think it is worse going down. I always worry the brakes will fail as they progressively get hotter.

2 peeps - me and skatiechik and one rusty maestro (George) coming from Sheffield.

The idea of meeting at Tesco is good, but how about the Macdonalds/hotel at the end of the M67 (just before glossop) as it is much easier to find.

The route is good, (winnats pass is a doddle so don't worry folks. If george can manage it on three cylinders and a blown headgasket with 4 heavy people in it there isn't anything to worry about). Might make a good photo shoot if we get some pictures on the fallen down road up there on the side of Mam Tor. A visit to chatsworth will provide more photo opportunities and a great site for a picnic if the weather is good. Otherwise there is no shortage of pub lunch venues.

So what do you all say. MacDonalds (at the glossop end of M67) at 10am? I think that should suit everybody, be easy to find, not too far for everyone, lots of parking and even a slap up breakfast for those to lazy to get up early enough to make one ourselves!

HEADMASTER

Oh settle down settle down.

(he puts his papers down)

Now before I begin the lesson will

those of you who are playing in the

match this afternoon move your clothes

on to the lower peg immediately after

lunch before you write your letters

home, if you're not having your hair

cut, unless you've got a younger brother

who is going out this weekend as the

guest of another boy, in which case

collect his note before lunch, put

it in your letter before you get your

hair cut, and make sure he moves your

clothes onto the lower peg after lunch

for you. Now ...

WYMER

Sir?

HEADMASTER

Yes Wymer?

WYMER

My younger brother's going out with

Dibble this weekend sir but I'm not

getting my hair cut today sir, so do

I move my clothes down or do I get

him ...

HEADMASTER

I do wish you'd listen Wymer, it's

perfectly simple, if you're not

getting your hair cut, you don't have

to put your brother's clothes down

on the lower peg, you just collect

the note before you do your scripture

prep after lunch when you've written

your letter home before rest, move

your clothes down a peg, greet the

visitors and report to Mr Webber

before lunch that you've got your

chit and of course your younger brother's.

Look, guys, is that perfectly clear? MacDonalds at the M67-A57 Roundabout at the eastern end of the M67 at 10am (definitely easier to find, you can't miss it), then proceeding in a circuit in an anticlockwise manner... good thinking about the collapsed road at Mam Tor, I'd forgotten about that! Make a good photo op, that...

Not that I'm gonna make comments along the lines of Well, some bugger's got to seize command... at this point!

There is plenty of time for someone to draw up some directions and email them to ppl.

Would it also be worthwhile for the route to be printed off and given to each car on the day. Incase any off us get lost or lose the rest of the group.

e692wtt

Unless we set off very early (not something I'm used to on a Sunday, or any other day for that matter), we will arrive via the A57 through east Manchester then the M67 to the moment of the termination of its ending (shades of 'The Hotel Inspectors' there, sorry...). The 'big-M' will guide us, at least temporarily, from there. Not for long - I prefer Bugger King...

We can 'do' the A628 on a future run, mebbe. We're spoilt in this bit of the country for roads to actually enjoy!

Anyone want to see where the Moors Murderers lived to the end of their reign, as we pass by? It's about 1/2 a mile from the MacD's we are all meeting at... sad, I know...

Stephen, thanks for sowing the seeds of this Run!

Have sent Jonathan an email confirming 10am at MacD's at the east end of the M67, then a rough idea of the route,as well as it being the "Manchester M Car Rally". It will be in Monstro, folks!!! Any last changes, we've got until early evening monday 14/7/03 at the absolute latest .

I'll post a copy of what I sent Jonathan tonight. Essentially...

Monday 25th, 10am at MacD's at M67/A57 eastern end (the car park will be open regardless), returning there by 6pm at the very latest, and including points of interest on the 'largely anticlockwise' route.

Right, Monday 25th, 10am at MacD's at M67/A57 it is. But where will the convoy be heading on the ainticlockwise route?

e692wtt
14th July 2003, 17:25
From memory...

Leave MacD's and head east on the A57. Past Glossop on the A6016 (?)and on South to Chapel-en-le-Frith. Left onto A623 or A625 to Winnats Pass (and the 'broken old road' at Mam Tor) then down to Castleton. Right to Tideswell and onto the A6. South to Bakewell. Left via Chatsworth House and then an as yet undecided route back towards Castleton but then a Right at Bamford and up to the A57 and the Snake Pass. West on A57 to MacD's where we all go home rejoicing.

When near Glossop, we can go to Hayfield where The lLeague Of Gentlemen is filmed, if you like. Not very relevant or picturesque though...

We can travel further if anyone wants, just see more sights than those above and in Monstro, that's all. Any suggestions?

The other other Rich.

D87 SMW
14th July 2003, 17:43
Going South from Glossop to Chapel-en-le-frith is the A624. Left onto A623, right onto the B6049 through Millers Dale. Left on the A6 through Taddington to Bakewell. This is where I make a suggestion.
From Bakewell, travel west on the B5055, turn right on the A515. Go North West to Buxton. Carry on to the A5004to Whaley Bridge. Travel on the A6 until the A6015 turn off, then left onto the B6101. Right onto the A626 through Mill Brow and Charlesworth. Left onto the A624 to the A628. Left on there until you reach McD's again.
If you would like to go to Hayfield, carry on on the A6015 to Hayfield before going North on the A624 to Glossop.

e692wtt

Last night's email to Jonathan for Monstro...

"Meeting at 10am on 25/8/03 (Bank Holiday Monday) at the Roundabout at the easterly end of the M67 (where it meets the A57) at the MacDonalds car park adjacent to said Roundabout. Proceeding into Derbyshire to follow a largely anticlockwise route taking in such places as Winnats Pass, Mam Tor (including the collapsed 'old road'), Castleton, Tideswell, Bakewell, Chatsworth House and returning via Bamford and the Snake Pass to our start point by 6pm at the absolute latest. There will be several cars from the Forum attending, and any non-Forum Menmbers will be very welcome."

If we change the route at this stage, the last part of this information becomes incorrect. We need to decide now , folks!!!

I'm of a mind to use the route I have suggested and then follow this route of Stephen's on one of the future runs (when we will have time to publicise it). My run also allows for members from South Yorkshire to get home easily without re-covering their tracks at least once, should they need or want to.

Ok, we'll stick with your idea. Does anyone know of anywhere off the top off thier heads where we can stop for lunch etc, or do we just decide as we go along?

e692wtt
14th July 2003, 20:33
We'll make it up as we go along. It might be better if we stopped at a pub in Tideswell or somewhere else off the main roads with a view to getting seats and quicker service though...

I was thinking that if people travel from Sheffield along the A57 to meet at 10am, they can then peel off East for home when we from the North West reach the A57 to head back to MacB's... which makes more sense than 'doing' the Snake Pass in convoy having already done it once in the same direction then travel back the way they have just come in convoy... unless you want to?

Ignore me, it's been a long day...

Does this make sense?

D87 SMW
18th July 2003, 15:38
Hmm, don't McD's finish breakfasts at 10? Is 10 still a good time te meet up? It should be ok even if other members come along at 10 (as said in Monstro) as we would already be there...

e692wtt
18th July 2003, 17:32
I wasn't planning on going in MacB's, I'd rather eat my leg and wash it down with Antifreeze (Holts's tastes best, unlike the alleged Beers of the same name brewed in this locality...) than frequent their "is that with fries?" establishment. If it was a Whammyburger that would be different! (Let's see who gets that one.) Guess who's just come to the end of another, ahem, bad day...:banghead:

Will post up what Jonathan, except for the odd word, is going to print, and you can base the Flyer on that.

Right folks, here goes...

"A group of members from the North West plan to hold an informal, non-competitive road run / rally meet on the August Bank Holiday Monday. A number of cars will meet at 10am in the Macdonalds car park adjacent to the roundabout at the easterly end of the M67, where it meets the A57.

"Proceeding into Derbyshire and the Peak District to follow a largely anticlockwise route the scenic drive takes in such places as Winnats Pass, Mam Tor (including the collapsed 'old road'), Castleton, Tideswell, Bakewell, Chatsworth House and returning via Bamford and the Snake Pass to the start point by 6pm. It's likely that there will also be a stop for a pub lunch included in the schedule.

"All members whether local or from elsewhere in the country will be welcome to join in. The finer details have yet to be confirmed at the time of going to press but if you're interested, further information is available by speaking to Richard Smith on 07761 342179."

Is that ok?

Yes, the Whammyburger is from Falling Down - got to be more exciting than MacB's, can't be any worse can it? At least I don't drive a rehashed-for-the-USA-Market Talbot Horizon (Dodge Omni?)... so my journey to work and through life gets off to an infinitely better start - better than in any other car, as it happens!!!

I'm not stressed, just vaguely frustrated after two horrible weeks at work - after the events of earlier this year I don't really rise to the muck hitting the fan any more - just not worth it. Been out for a good drive anyway, which has improved my mood considerably.:) Amazing how the VDP spoiler pulls the front down at 95 down the Haslingden Bypass (A56) - did 115 down there once in an Audi Coupe, which was, errm, interesting after gunning it in 2nd, 3rd then 4th and looking down after changing into 5th:laugh:

Highlight of the day has to be the Boss getting a puncture on his X5. How many fellas does it take to change an X5 wheel? Four, as it happens... all in shirts and ties and their best strides, and trying not to get dirty:laugh: and failing miserably  ... happy days are indeed here again:laugh: I'll try to get the photos... not promising though.

I'm going for the gold-plated nervous breakdown but no-one takes me seriously... They call it hysteria, we all suffer from it at my nest of desks.

Nah, I'm ok, just chilling listening to mp3 1980s stuff and contemplating a Chinese...

Catch y'all later! (where's ma ol' Omni gone to?)

Dave (F170 GGT) With Steve
Tony (Whatever Car He Decides To Bring)
Lindsey (J844 KHG) With Dan

Steve,

we are meeting at the A57/M67 eastern end roundabout (eastern roundabout as there is a roundabout at the western end of the M67 where it meets the M60 & A57 - which could confuse people if you mention the M60).

List of cars is fine. If we're perusing the cars, RDGelder and me will HAVE to come in Aggie, unless we're having a Concours de Grot in which case I will be positively proud to bring Monty!

Why not do a 'draft' flyer and post that below for comments (or as an attachment somewhere [don't understand this...])? Base it on the email I sent Jonathan (for Monstro) several hundred posts ago on this thread...

Do people still think a meal in the 'olde worlde' place adjacent to MacB's at the end of the run is a good idea? I'm open to the idea.

Apart from that, I think we're all set to go! Anybody need the toilet before we go? It's a long journey...

I'm still getting more tempted to join you, I don't mind the drive. Anyone from the other end of the country who can't be bothered to drive all the way to Manchester fancy being my navigator? I'll have to put up with Digital Dorris otherwise.

Well Rich,

At the moment were still going in Aggie - if she doesnt decide to throw a wobbler and overheat at the first hill (Now that would be embarrasing) - but otherwise, we could take Monty - Hes not that bad you know...

The meal at the end of the run sounds quite good, and i we dont want to stop at a pub for lunch half way through - we could bring butties and a drink.

Jonathan , you would be more than welcome. Glad to hear D428 is about to roam the highways and byways again.:)

Cheers for comments re the wheel change - now u can see what I've got to put up with at work... one of the 'junior bosses' was washing his tie while still wearing it on the fateful day... "Oh," says Jean, to whom I give a lift every day "I thought you'd dropped your tie in your soup!".

This is all very intruiging. How about a meet at the cowley motor works outside Oxford? There is a sports and social club with a big ground beside the plant (Now owned by BMW, producing the new Mini).
The NSVA held their nationals there for the past two years. That's when I joined up. The other vanners didn't seem to like it so they are running this year's show up at Billing Aquadrome. But it would seem an appropriate place to run a show in the future as it's where they built our cars/vans (as well as Longbridge?). Is there anyone out there south of Birmingham who are interested in this? It's just an idea at the moment.

I hope everyone now has the "published" Flyer. If it is printed standard A4, it can be photocopied into A5 I think.
So if anyone would like to make a few copies in each size, the A5 version can be put on any Maestros or Montegos you see, and the A4 size elsewhere. (where's elsewhere, Rich??? )

Any comment or suggestions:

I've had a phone call to indicate a positive response to our ad in Monstro, and there will be another car in the convoy.

I've not sorted the route out yet, will do it tonight. Am still in the midst of moving, the new place is ready to go except for the carpets, which is a bit frustrating. Even got ntl and broadband fitted yesterday but no telly or pc...

And have had Contents Insurance refused by MoreTh>n because the new place is 'in a flood risk area'... Car Insurance stays the same, except for an extra £1.40 a month for parking on the street as opposed to a driveway.

The route, but Steve will distribute the final version...

A57 EASTBOUND THEN RIGHT TO GLOSSOP.

RIGHT ONTO A6016 (I think!) ROUND SIDE OF GLOSSOP

RIGHT ONTO A624 TOWARDS CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH (the only town sign with the town's main employer (Ferodo) on, that I know of)

LEFT AT CHAPEL ONTO THE A6 THEN LEFT ONTO A625 ALMOST IMMEDIATELY

to Winnats Pass (photos), the broken 'old road' (photos) and then Speedwell, Peak and Blue John Caverns if we're feeling adventurous! Or call at Edale (start of pennine way, very scenic, photos)?

ONTO CASTLETON (peveril castle) AND HOPE

RIGHT ONTO B6049 TO TIDESWELL AND ACROSS A623 (possible pub stop?)

LEFT ONTO A6 TO BAKEWELL (home of the Bakewell Tart – eat some?)

THROUGH BAKEWELL TO ROWSLEY

LEFT ONTO B6012 TO CHATSWORTH ESTATE AND HOUSE (photos and stop over)

OR CARRY ON DOWN A6 TO MATLOCK BATH AND SEE THE SIGHTS (Heights of Abraham Cable Car, and the town itself which is very picturesque, but limited parking)?

PICK UP A619 TO BASLOW

LEFT ONTO A623

AFTER 2 MILES RIGHT ONTO B6001

AFTER 300 YARDS RIGHT ONTO B6054

AFTER 3 MILES LEFT ONTO B6055

AT END LEFT ONTO A625

RIGHT ONTO A6013 PAST BAMFORD (the dams on the left are where the Dambusters practised for their raids over Germany – photos?)

AT END, LEFT ONTO A57 AND THE ROAD HOME…

Any final thoughts?

Further to what Lamonto said above, 'a drive in the Yorkshire Dales and a pub lunch', what are your ideas Ian? We're possibly going to Edale (southern start of Pennine Way) so we could visit other parts of it on other Runs - beats walking it!!! Suggest an area of the Yorkshire Dales (presumably towards the northern end) and then we'll organise a Run based around there next time...

Hi Rich,

The parts we agreed I would have are:

- Steering Wheel
- Front seat-belt latches
- A and B post top to bottom and front and rear inner sill brown plastic trim
- All four door-seals
- The small brown screw-covers from the inside door-handles
- Screw covers from the carpet-securing screws.

I think that is all. I'll add to the post if I think of anything else.

I can't make it on Monday as I shall be in Newcastle upon Tyne so PM or e-mail me the postage costs and your address and I will send you a cheque.
