WHERE CAN I GET DOOR HANDLES IN THE DORSET AREA.... WHY DO THEY KEEP BREAKING?????

i second that! Far easier to pay the money rather than searching high and low, particularly if they are the chrome type - very rare these days!
They keep breaking simply because they were only meant for looks when the maestro was first produced, Austin Rover never expected the maestros to keep going for so long, certainly got 20 years! and didnt think hard wearing door handles would be cost effective. Fortunately they were wrong! :-)

Make sure you keep all the door release linkages well greased up - some Open Gear spray grease is the one for the job...
I was given a black metal (diecast) door handle that I've since fitted to the driver's door - dunno what it was off but it's most definatly stronger than the plastic variety.

By replying you have jogged my bonce... the die cast handles were used on the mk1 Metro and Metro & Maestro van... I shall try to aquire some forthwith..

I have one of those die-cast handles on the driver's door of a rusting old 1.3L - it is by far and aaway the strongest part of the car - highly recommended!
