View Full Version : Fuel problems

I am at the finnishing stages of building my friend a Maestro turbo (engine donated from Monty) but cant get enough fuel to the engine. The car is starting, then cutting out after 10 seconds or so. I took the main fuel line into the engine off, and only a drible comes out when cranking the engine, so clearly a 'fuel from tank' problem.

Pump? dont think so, it worked perfect 5 days ago with the EFI engine and sounds very good to me.

Fuel line blockage? shouldnt be, as I say all was fine 5 days ago.

Petrol? three quarters full and put in a week ago.

Air lock? dont know, but there is small amounts of fuel getting through.

One other thing-there is a fuel line coming from the uppermost rear of the carb, the only fuel line with 2 green wires attached to it (gos to loom). I have no idea where this gos as it has been a while since I built my turbo and cant reffer back to it as I have changed everything. When the engine runs this line doesnt blow/suck air or fuel (seems to do nothing).

Perhaps it is due to this?

Is the fuel pump priming properly, i.e., Does it buzz when you turn the ignition on? Is the fuel pump cut off relay set?

if there is only a dribble of fuel then it must be either a dodgy pump of fuel pressure regulator or a blocked pipe/fuel filter. When the fuel pump is working it'll squirt fuel everywhere.

Could be collapsed rubber fuel pipe between the fuel tank and the pump, collapsing under suction? More likely to happen in hot weather (as the rubber will be softer), and it's warmed up in the last 5 days. Or the inner lining of one of the rubber hoses collapsing on the suction side (reason ditto)?

I presume you've tried taking the fuel cap off and checked the fuel flow?

Turns out brainbox me hadnt wired the fuel pump up properly- so now the car is running as it should be.

Thanks all
