guys yesterday i had 2 new front tryes fitted to my vdp monty in a garage when trying to restart her she woudl not the engine was turning over well with loads of spark and fuel once we did get her started she kicked out loads of white smoke (could it be unburnt fuel?) i took her for a run down the motorway to clear her out got back to work then she died (AGAIN) :banghead: after phoning round a lot of places it came down to the fuel injecters packing up so i changed them from my scrapped mg monty she then started first go but one other thing she did do was blow loads and i mean loads of blue smoke for well over 30 mins it di start to clear after a while i had to drive her home she got me home with no smoke out the back (strange) i did a compression test and all seems ok now so why all that smoke then nothing this morning ?? also i am after a map of where all teh breather pipes (vac and air pipes) from the throtle housing to where ever they are suppsoed to go (there is t at teh moment but i only know where 1 goes. thats it my rant over with :laugh: :laugh:

Hi, bad starting + white smoke could be the head gasket. :)

Basic guidelines for smoke
Black = Unburnt fuel
White = Steam
Blue = Oil
Has the car recently been stood for a while? Have you checked the Fuel filler pipe for a hole. It could be water in the petrol or gone off fuel.

I assume the Injectors flooded the engine with all the cranking but no starting... the excess fuel will wash oil off the bores and into the piston bowls (on their tops). This oil/petrol mix will then gradually burn off as the engine (once finally started) warms up, giving blue smoke.
When this oil/petrol mix has burnt off, the blue smoke stops.
So no blue smoke when engine restarted again, and the compression test confirms there's nothing wrong :) .
Well, it's an attempt to explain it :laugh: .
