My van has recently gone from a diesel to a Turbo diesel and although much better than the diesel the turbo just doesn't seem quite enough or something just isn't quite right. TD's are supposed to have oodles of torque but mine hasn't. TD's are supposed to be about as quick as a 1.6 but mine isn't. (infact my 1.3 i reckon would give it a run for its money - although that is pretty quick for a 1.3).
Also the MPG is dissapointing too. The old diesel got about 60mpg when it was thrashed to within an inch of its life, and I was expecting around 50mpg from the TD however I'm getting at very best 49 and on a long clear fast run from gloucester up to northwales I only got 41mpg.
She doesn't smoke much, except when absolutely caneing it which gives a fair cloud of soot as I'd pretty much expect. She starts first time everytime and doesn't use a huge amount of oil and the exhaust smoke is never blue.
My inital thoughts were that my turbo wasn't giving enough boost or the boost wasn't coming in soon enough, as maintaining 70mph is difficult on the motorway but it'll happily do 75-80. But as I've never driven another TD maestro I may be way off target or expecting too much.
My other thought was is the exhaust too restrictive? The original diesel exhaust has been used which is a bit smaller than the TD one.
I'm going to fit a boost gauge I think (when I find one that isn't bloomin white or have fast and furious all over it!) to see what max boost is and when it is reached, but can anyone give me an idea of what sort of figures I should expect? I think GK mentioned either 15 or 17psi but the BL rally seems so long ago now!
Any ideas? All suggestions appreciated.
