The Sunday Times had an article this week about the top 100 privately owned British companies.
The John Lewis Partnership came out top - but MG Rover was 8th. it was measured on sales and there was a picture of Kevin Howe with a ZS and a ZT.
He was quoted as saying that he was expected MG Rover to return to profit next year with an introduction of a new model.
Not sure whether he meant the 45/ZS replacement or the Tata Indica based car. All in all though, 2004 should be a good year for the company - 100 years of Rover 80 years of MG and going fom strength to strength.
It all reminds me of when Austin Rover was borne out of BL and stopped making cars like the Marina, Ital, Allegro etc and introduced the vastly improved Metro, Maestro and Montego.
Also if a 45/ZS replacement is launched we should see the first MG saloon launched alongside the standard version since the Austin and MG Maestro was launched in March 1983 (which in itself was a first)
Looking forward to seeing:
Budget Car - Tata Indica based Rover 15 "Metro"
Supermini - Rover 25/MG ZR
Family hatch/saloon - Rover 55? ZS replacement
Luxury saloon/tourer - 75/ZT/ZTT
Off-road SUV tourer - Rover TCV
Cheeky roadster- MG Midget-type Tata based car
Serious roadster - MG TF
Supercar - MG SV
Muscle Saloon - MG ZT385/X-Power 500
This lineup is what they need to take on all comers from the German bruisers right down to the budget Korean cars that are flooding our roads and choking our car-industry.
