Right then, I get the feeling I won't be beating you all off with a large stick over this, but here goes!
I have just pulled a 1.6 S series engine and 5 speed gearbox (VW type ‘box) from my 1987 Maestro VDP (pending T16 turbo swap). The engine has suspected head gasket failure, but previously went very well. It has done around 100k, so not in its first flush of youth. I was intending to chuck them both in the Landrover and take them down to the tip, but before I do, does anyone want them for spares / to rebuild? Comes complete with manifolds, carb (carb off 1990 1.6 Monty) and alternator. Actually, just to clarify, the gearbox is fine, shifted with no problems and was never noisy on the move.
