I was just wondering about the camping at Nene Park...

MaestroMatt and I are thinking of being there so I suppose we'd better get a little organised. Is anone else going to come? - it doesn't make any sense for just us two to be there on our own as we only live about 30 mins away!

I vote for a similar arangement as the one we had a Coombe Park - arrive earlyish, have a trip to 'Scos followed by a barbie and then sit under a Gazebo, out of the rain.

The northern convoy (comprising of the usual suspects) will be leaving from its usual start point on Saturday, but not sure of times yet. A plan similar to what was done at Lodge Farm sounds ideal though....Plus our Metro owning friends will hopefully be in attendance again to impress us with their culinary skills once more...

:)

Yes I will be there camping in the Campervan with Dan, and bringing the VDP along. It was good fun camping last year.

All campers have to help set up the club stand tho' ;)

Great - work out when you're likely to be there and we'll come and meet you :)

I'll be there (with or without the AA) for about 7.30-8.00pm but only to gatecrash the barbecue as usual. Just don't ask me to cook anything ;)

The night before is becoming as big as the event itself these days :)

Simon, are you bringing the unofficial club BBQ with you?

Yep - the unofficial MMOC cooking apparatus will make its second appearance as will the unoficial MMOC chefs!

I'll make sure I bring the unofficial club lantern to turn the gazebo into a freaky glowing UGO again.

 No that was a Yugo. Not much difference though.

UGO = Unidentified Garden Object, I presume.... ;) :D

There's a world of difference between an UGO and a Yugo.....

The UGO has blatantly more power and far better crash protection!!!!

I think meeting up and then a trip to Tescos followed by a BBQ and a few drinks, like at Coombe Park, is a great idea.

But once we are in Nene Park, I believe the gates shut at 8 or 9pm? And once we are in, how long will it take to get back in if we go shopping (assuming that loads of people are trying to get in to camp overnight as well)?

And if we are locked in, people staying at local hotels will struggle to attend the BBQ and then get out again, unless we have the BBQ early.

Can anyone tell us more about the gates closing at some inconvenient early time???

The Northern Convoy

The usual suspects are planning to meet at various points, and I've mentioned to Metro Mike about meeting the Chesterfield group on the way down - I'm thinking in the Worksop area on the A57 on the way to the A1?

And if we give Simon and Matt notice as we are en route, we can meet them at the gate and all go into Nene Park together? If anyone else wants to meet up, say so below... :)

And why do I feel the pathological need to organise this too  ? Just call me Genghis Khan... ;) Today seize command of this post, tomorrow several Road Runs and Convoys! :p

The gates are locked (not sure what time think it was 9pm), but if you are already in it is not a problem getting out. The passageway for going out is just a motion detected barrier it can't be locked. For those arriving late, after the gate has been locked (like the couple from Scotland last year, wonder if they are coming again?) there is a carpark to leave the car in, and someone can ferry you down to the campsite with belongings.

There shouldn't be a problem with people from local hotels attending, as long as they arrive before the gates are shut.

Nice one! So people attending the Barbeque, but not campng, can park outside and walk through earlier in the evening, then get out to drive home. That's that problem solved, thanks. :)

I've also spoken to Terry Shelmerdine, he usually comes to the BMC/BL Rally and I know several people on the Forums know him, but he can't attend this year.

Just tell us where you want us to meet you and we will be there, there are a few road works on the A1 that may hinder our progress some what (contraflow for resurfaceing) found out today while visiting the organisers of the day. Looks as though it will still be there at the weekend, made me laugh because the warned you about the road works 13 miles up the road and there was only really about 1/2 a mile of contraflow.

But as i say, tell us when and were to meet you and we WILL be there (susages and bacon ready packed lol)

I'm sure we can get back in that way, just do a "Mr Bean"

Okay dokey, here is a provisional plan...

Rich Gelder and myself leaving Bury, Lancashire at 12.45pm, then collecting E_T_V and Skatichik (and possibly Tony too) from Stocksbridge (nr Sheffield) at 2pm.

Then meet the Chesterfield Posse (Mike, Bev and Stew) at Newark Services (A1-A617 junction) in the Little Chef at 3.15pm-ish then another 50-ish miles sees us at Nene Park for 4.30pm approximately...

I believe there are roadworks on the A1, so we might be running later, but this is the plan...

We will ring Matt and Simon (F153JUE) to give an ETA at Nene Park so we can all meet up, as we approach.

Then set up tents etc and pay Tescos a visit, then a BBQ and a good evening.

If anyone else wants to join, at any point, reply below or you can send me a PM or email... :)

Do you have to pay to set up camp?

Gareth

MaestroMatt
28th July 2004, 09:39
Not wishing to drop a stone in your dashpot or anything but the only Tescos I can think of in Peterborough is some distance from Nene park. There may be a closer one but I don't know where it is. It may be simpler if we all just turn up with food for the barbecue on the day.

Steve - UGO - you guessed it in one, damnit!

Ok... I find sand is better in dashpots as it wears them out quickly and permanently.

Seriously, how's about RDGelder and myself (for reasons that will become apparent ;) ) get the food (and drink?) from Tescos and bring it with us, and you guys can pay us then? Depends if we all want to save a few squid like I do...

And I seem to recall that it's either £1.20 or £2.40 to camp (pay on the gate, not beforehand though). Could be wrong about the price tho...

I presume we are going shopping at Tesco for odds 'n' sods tonight (Saturday) then, as Stew is going to get food for the BBQ and brekkie? :)

Anyway, it looks like there are a couple of threads about the Camping tonight, before the BMC/BL Rally, so pick a thread... ooh, this one wins!

I'm taking 2 tables (was a major problem for us Campers before MG Saloon Day, no tables...) and 3 chairs.

So we are OK for tables... anyone taking any more chairs???

I presume the Gazebo is going too? Not that it looks like rain  actually it looks like a good couple of days weather-wise (http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=3026) :)

Hi Gareth,

MaestroMatt and I are hoping to arrive there around 17:30ish, subject to getting horrendously lost!

I gues you'll be about in time for the food if you leave at the same time!

See you there.
