hello new owner of a mg maestro 2.0l

my problem is that exhaust gases have started coming into the cabin, the exhaust is not blowing nor is the manifold just changed the filler cap which had lost it's gaze and the breather pipe has dirt down it but will blow through to the filler cap. the engine is quite worn has it is blowing quite hard out of the filler pipe.

Is the problem a knackered engine (worn piston rings) or a pipe block or something else

thanks for any help given.

Andy

if the smoke is comming from the engine/bay it may be comming from any one of many rubber grommits thats in the bulkhead, or perhaps one is missing or pershied? or from the back of the car thro the rear seal of the tailgate or thro the seal of the sunroof, or even the sunroof being open

I'd give the breather system a good clean out and make sure none of the hoses have perished of come adrift as this could be your problem. a blocked breather system causes fumes to come out where they weren't suppose do and maybe getting in the cabin. Also check all the gromets door seals expecially tailgate etc as it has to get in from somewhere.
