View Full Version : Pattern Panels

I've just been trying to fit my Hadrian front n/s wing to the DLX, to make sure it's ok before I paint it.
All fit reasonably well until you look at the bottom of the windscreen pillar, you could drive one of our buses through the gap!!!! Seriously, the gap is easy 10-15mm, not impressed at all, very doubtful if any amount of 'adjusting' is going to make it fit properly. :rage:
Has anybody else had this problem or can give advice please, can anybody reccomend a make of panel forme to use?
Was hoping to get the beast back on the road while i'm on holiday in two weeks. :banghead: :banghead:
Cheers
Dean.

Genuine panels are always best. For example, I've recently had to buy a passenger sill from an aftermarket parts supplier as Rover don't stock them anymore. The driver's sill is far better by comparison which is a genuine Rover part as it is formed to the right shape and has a wing mount unlike my aftermarket passenger one. I can't recommend anything other than having all the bolts done up 1/2 way and lining up each part of the wing in turn to make it fit.

As john has said pattern part panels are crap, most panels can still be had from rover, reasonably priced to.

Pattern pannels aren't always inferior to original panels. Sometimes there is less wear on the pattern parts dies than the rover ones (as they weren't used in production) and so the parts are more accurate than the original parts! Also they may be using better (or worse) steel for pattern parts. If the part doesn't fit send it back and ask for one from a different batch number.

On wheeler dealers on discovery, the pannel part the gye doing the capri up was a :censored: fit and he manuly beat it into shape then fillerd over the dents. Mind u may need a lot of skill to do this.

Wasn't that a Mercedes 230E they bought a front wing for at £26 or is that yet another one?

there was a capri done as well. Unfortunately, capri's (being my first love and maestro's my second  ) have weld-on wings. Matching the maestro bolt on wing should be far easier in comparison.
i just collected my 1.3LX i bought on ebay, there is a hole about 2" across just below the petrol filler, and the rust extends to just behind the filler door. Is there a repair panel that would cover this area, or am i best getting it professionally sorted? i can weld but i'm not confident enough to weld that close to the fuel filler. :worried:

Did you see the bodge he made of it? What colour did he want to call that? It certainly wasn't the same as the rest of the car! My mate's got an A reg 2.0S that was originally pine green (apparently rare!?!) which was resprayed in various different places, and none of them were as bad as that colour match!
Speaking of which, have you noticed any improvement with the efi fitted? He has pondered over it, but he read that the bhp gain was more in the improved head than the efi system itself?
Sorry to go completely off topic again......

***Small Idea . Do Any Bottom Nuts Up First Ect Then The Top . Because If It Is Slightly Bent It May Cause If To Pull The Bottom Out If You Do The Top Up 1st.. Get Me ?

Kinda off topic, wrong car, wrong make,
yeah i did see the mess it was in, and if i remember correctly, they paid something like £200 for the wings, when they can be bought for about £35 each.
The efi system has made a difference, it runs a lot smoother, power delivery is also smoother, fuel economy is greatly improved. It's also got a stage 1 head, kent fast road cam, induction kit, tubular manifold (heatwrapped) and full ashley exhaust. there's plent more mods on the car but it goes like s*** off a shovel. :horror:
Anyway, if we wanna talk about capri's - go here:
