It depends on the age, but the only difference with ones earlier than the turbo is plug and display size. But if it is a early one you can use the instrument surround with the turbo dash

If you actually mean the entire digital speedo and gauge pack, the main thing you would need is the electronic speedometer sensor to fit into the gearbox instead of the mechanical cable.
I believe that the Maestro and Montego sensor was the same as the one used on the Rover 800 range and possibly even some of the later Rovers (600, 400/45, 200/25) as long as they were fitted with the same type of gearbox ('PG1')
You would then need to make up the necessary wiring to connect the sensor to the instrument pack.
The rest of the dash wiring just plugs in to the Maestro MG/VP electronic instruments.
If you want to use the trip computer as well, you will have problems making the fuel-related functions work, because working fuel flow sensors are hard to find nowadays

Not a straight swap, but not that hard to do. I've done it to my L series van project which is rather a lot more work!

The r800 speed sensors do work to a point, but i altered an mg1600 one pigybacked to the back of an efi one
As for the fuel flow transducer which the turbo would need,i do wonder whether these were fitted to some VWs as they are made by VDO who also make vw instuments and a lot of vws had trip computers

Fuel flow transducer isn't worth bothering with to be honest.

There are only early ones aren't there?
Those clocks are out of an MG1600 not a vanden plas. Not that it makes any real difference though!

VDP have a blue rectangles background grid. MG1600's have a red one :) Very minor obviously!

You need the trip computer if you want a trip counter as the clocks themselves only have an odometer.
I once bought a brand new fuel flow transducer and fitted it to my MG1600 and it only lasted 3000 miles. Any second-hand one will already be broken.

would love a montego with digital dash, like a 1984 MG EFi. more functions like light check, vehicle map and even service interval indicator.
i will keep on looking.................................or dreaming i think
