A few problems with my turbo,

1st,theres a bad oil leak, can't see where it's coming from, but it looks like it's aroung the turbo area,a brand new turbo was fitted two years ago,any ideas? the front of the engine has no oil anywhere!

2nd,not only is it leaking oil.it's also burning it! you can start the car from cold no smoke, drive it till it's warm, turn it off, then re-start,blue smoke, but it dosn't happen all the time! dosn't smoke when being 'drivin hard' but when you slow down to stop, blue smoke, also sometimes if your just driving it slowly,it'll smoke,no smoke what so ever on a motorway run,or when you booting it,it's getting very confusing  and it only just passed it's last mot two weeks ago,on smoke emissions,
it's started to get worse,

Any help???

cheers
Rick

The 1st oil leak could be coming from the turbo oil feed pipe. I suggust you have a closer look. It could also be the turbo drain, or even the sump gasket.

The 2nd one is common. It is aggravated by a poor breather system and i suggust you check this first. My car has done this since purchase at 71k, 4 years ago. Fine when cold, but when restarted from hot, or idling for any length of time when hot, if you depress the accelerator it will puff out a bit of smoke.

If the breather system is A1, look at possibly replacing the valve stem oil seals, although this is a head off job. Age, heat and wear and tear cause the seals to harden and they cannot do their job properly. Try a thicker engine oil too, 15w 50 for example. If it still does it, then its what i suspect my problem is, and that is a knackered piston ring seal inside the turbo on the turbine side. Difference is, my turbo is original! But not uncommon for relatively new turbo units to be like this.

When i inspected my turbo unit after the engines recent head off/ porting job, i noticed a small amount of oil that had seeped out around this turbine area. Another Maestro Turbo that i helped buy for a friend did the exact same thing, and that too had 70 odd thousand.
