I've seen a maestro turbo on ebay and am very tempted to try and restore it to ist former glory. However what can I expect to pay to insure one of those monsters? I'm 25 (when it'll be ready to drive) but no no-claims. Anyone got a ball park figure as those internet quotes never seem to work.

Also how'd you tell if it is a genuine Tickford car not a replica? Is there any easy way?

Cheers

Daniel

Best way to check if its genuine is to drop martin woods a quick email with the reg and preferably VIN - it may even be one he doesn't know about!

As for insurance, try tescos as they're engine actually works (if a little noesy - wants to know adress etc etc etc).

They quoted me 500 TPF&T @ 23years with 5yrs NCD.

Not got mine insured yet, but I rang Lancaster (details on MG Owners Club website) and was quoted £330 :)

That's pretty cheap - I can expect to have quotes of £300 - £400 for a 1.3!

A genuine turbo with have a VIN starting with SAXXCTWT*********. Normal Efi's/2.0i's have one T missing. I pay £520 a year with Tesco's, 4 years no claims.

This is your first car isn't it? You'll be lucky to get your own policy for under £700 even on a 1.3. My first premium at the ripe old age of 20 on a 1.3L was £750 but I had only just passed my test and had no experience driving e.g. my parents' cars.

Stephen,

You can expect to get quotes in the range of £1,300 for your 1.3. The highest i have had for a quote is £1,500. The lowest was £1,000 from Tesco.

Hehe, I had a quote from Elephant for approx £1k while I was shopping around. Go figure! Btw, the quote I got from Lancaster was fully comp, limited mileage, and included insurance for a second driver with points on his licence.
