Seeing as I'm just about to replace my engine the thought struck me that I should prolly tell the DVLA and also my insurance company.

Is this the case?
Should I tell anyone else?

I know I'm not the first to do this!

I would like to know this too - I may need a new A series at some stage.

Just fill in the new engine number on the back of the V5 and send it back to the DVLA they'll send you a new un. No need to tell anyone else unless you've but a non standard engine (bigger or smaller) in it. Just done that on my A series. I was luck enough to find a 12,500 mile engine in a scrap car for 50 quid. Just about run in I reckon! ;)

No it was a genuine 12,500.

I almost cried when I was it. Not a spot of rust, original tyres, the inside even still had that new smell. Obviously it was some old fellows pride and joy as it was totally immaculate apart from the dents that obviously put it in the scrappie. I was half tempted to buy it from the scrap yard and fit the dented doors wings with the ones from my old. I hope to get the boot and passenger doors from it someday if it is still there.
