I've got a set of illuminated stalks for the DLX, ready to fit them and realised where do I connect the wires for the bulb to? Or is it just a case of connecting it to a feed such as the wiper switches which illuminate?

Many thanks

Dean.

idealy u need to take the steering wheel off ,if it has it ,there is a white bulb holder just behind the steering wheel ,the fiber optics are just a push fit into the sides of the bulb holder.hope this helps tony

Illuminated stalks were fitted up until 1989 model year. Easy to fit if you want to.

The fibre optic 'leads' are cunningly trapped in the bulb holder, but a simple catch will release them. I can let you have the whole lot if you want (send me a Private Message) from the VDP I am breaking. Just needs wiring into the sidelight circuit (red wire with black tracer?).

Mine's an 85 VP, and I don't have fancy stalks :(

Forgot to mention, Maestro Mk2 dash only, your 85 has the earlier dash from memory?

Where do you suggest tapping into the side light circuit?

Find a terminal on the light stalk which goes live when switched on, and solder into that.

Try the +ve feed to the light switch (on the l/h stalk)? Or even tap into a circuit that's live with the Ignition? The world is your lobster. Or is that oyster?

Seriously, tap into the feed to the Heater illumination bulbs, or the feed(s) to the Facia Switch illumination bulbs, for the stalks to light up with the sidelights.

The feed if not connected should be to a convenient piece of red/black wire for the live (this is sidelights) and a black for the earth return. The central bulb is one of those capless wedge ones about 3mm diameter and 1.2W. Ordinarily they illuminate green, but mine glow orange because I got the orange filter for each stalk from a Sherpa van, of all things. I converted all my dash illumination/dials/digital clock to glow orange because I find it more relaxing. Looks nice too!

MK1 style dash style stalks are different, based on earlier ones as found in most 70's BL cars and cannot be illuminated.

As I mentioned in the Rear Cigarette Lighter installation process you can also draw an illumination feed of the red/black wire inside the glovebox panel. You need quite a length of wire to go under the dash and into the steering column though.

PS: I tried tapping into the fog light/rear wiper/washer button illumination but it didn't work
