It would seem that MGSD has provoked some good debate!, it was good to see so many Maestro's and Montego's together. BL day is not far away now and having been to the show the last two years can thoroughly recommend it. It would be great to have as many if not more cars on the club stand at BL day. I hopefully will be bringing my Maestro Vp and Monty Mayfair, so who else is coming!.

Too far for me sorry but I agree it would be great to see a good turnout of M&Ms on that day

If it's sunny I'll go! What cars are allowed/wanted on the club stand?

I'll be there in my beige miniMetro on the MOC stand, but will definitely pop over and say hello. I want to remind myself what a Montego looks like without rust as mine is a bit crusty!

Unfortunately this event clashes with MG Harrogate (again ) which is where I intend to be, a damn long way but I like the Harrogate event!!
I enjoyed BL Day last year though.

If it's a Maestro or Montego...then it is welcome. Rusty wreck or show winner...it doesn't matter.

...and if it's not a Maestro or Montego then it's probably welcome as well - I've shown a Metro and a Rover 213 on the club stand in the past couple of years!

I'm going in My Landrover, as I will be helping out on the Innaugural Rover 800 Stand.
(25th Anniversery of "Project XX" this year (Mk1 800))

I may bring a few bits with me if asked, but can only bring from what I have here.

I'll come for a look round, but wont be in my Maestro or Montego - the Maestro wont be finished by then - not enough time! - The Montego could have been if only I'd done that before the Maestro (only a seized engine to sort on that)

Absolutely no excuse, Chris.

I got married the day before the Allegro 35th Anniversary celebrations at Gaydon, and still made it to Gaydon :D :D
(Admittedly, marrying another club member probably helped to enable that :))

Your Avenger would be more than welcome, Andy.....there is usually a non-BL section which tends to get over-run by Fords.

If it's a Maestro or Montego...then it is welcome. Rusty wreck or show winner...it doesn't matter.

Ok, Rich, we will park our bedroom on the club stand (aka Tandy). That's assuming it is ok for a non-member to put their vehicle on the club stand??

assuming it is ok for a non-member to put their vehicle on the club stand??

I would assume that would depend on what the status of the clubs insurance?

I am aware that many club insurance policy's cover them for public liability, (accidental injury of visitors ect), but specify that displaying vehicles must be club members.

I would assume that the MMOC insurance is a more "all round" general policy that covers al owners and vehicles displayed whether members or not?.

MMOC used to stop people parking on the stand who were not members, claiming public liability insurance precluded non-members. I have never understood this because shows like this aren't generally open to the general public (it is an almost all other exhibitors who are looking around) and in any case, the show organisers themselves would have arranged insurance for the whole event.

Furthermore, if a non-member parks by the club's stand and then something happens to an unwitting passer-by, are they not covered? But step onto MMOC's stand and have a mishap, and they are?

when they displayed at Powderham, the MG 'M' Group had to supply a policy certificate and fill in a risk assessment form but at the same show other cars were displayed in a big field as individual entries (presumably without public liability insurance) which I thought was inconsistent.

Then when I organised a display at the Bristol Classic Car Show - the proper one, not the one in Shepton Mallet, I was never asked for proof of insurance. In fact, as far as they knew it may not have even been a club display. If you and all your neighbours decided to go along and display a load of random cars together under the banner of 'Cars of Acacia Avenue', then you could.

It would be interesting to know where the law stands on this or how much of this is determined by bye-laws. After all, I cannot believe there is a law that says 'You need separate insurance (apart from your normal policy) to park in a field on a patch of land reserved for cars a bit like yours'.

I know that the "PLI" cover that the Metro owners Club has covers members only.

And the club has a strict policy of "Members cars only" on the Club Stand.

I have been "moved on" from the mmoc stand due to non membership at BL day a few years ago, as have others. (funny you should mention it Matthew)

The statement was Clear. Club insurance covers Club members only, and "the Risk associated with non members cars was to be avoided".

Although this has been "relaxed" in recent years.

Not a dig at the Club, as most clubs have this stipulation these days.

That is why I questioned it.

There will be an announcement over the next few days with regards to non members on club stand.

matthewsemple
10th July 2011, 17:18
I am not doubting that these policies state that they only cover members of the club. I am just doubting the need for such a policy in the first place. As far as I am concerned it is one of these Health and Safety gone mad things - i.e. people blaming non-existent Health & Safety legislation as an excuse to stop other people doing normal activities that are completely within the law.

http://www.hse.gov.uk/myth/images/risk2.jpg

I don't care if I am not covered - I am not covered when I park my car in the supermarket which is also private land but has many more members of the public and a much greater chance of an accident. The supermarket will have public liability insurance. The BL/BMC people will have arranged a policy for the event and they don't check that everyone arriving is a member of a club with its own policy.

What is whoever gets hurt/injured/offended going to do when whatever is supposed to go wrong, goes wrong near my parked, stationary car? Sue me?

I'll see them in court!

Was really looking forward to this then....

On the 18th July one of my spine discs prolapsed, compressing my spinal cord and requiring emergency surgery

I'm out of hospital now but needless to say I won't be driving for 6 weeks or so, and I'm not up to a long journey yet anyway:(

Hope it goes well and look forward to seeing some pics!

Interesting debate about insurance.
As some of you might know, I am involved in Vintage tractor preservation and attend shows.
Here insurance is a hot topic, because most exhibits are trailered to events, and not all are registered and insured for road use, so our Club has arranged PL I for members for the duration of events.
This has satisfied event organizers insurer.

However, there has never been any queries regarding tractors or other self-propelled exhibits that are registered and licensed for road use?

What is different about cars parked in a field

What is different about cars parked in a field :confused:It's to do with the fact that some (most?) domestic insurance policies don't cover you to display your car at a show. It should say yay or nay in your policy's small-print. If not, ring and ask. Regardless of whether a vehicle is otherwise road-legal, it's always wise that either the show organiser or the Club you are with ensures their PLI covers you and other exhibitors should you either incur or cause an accident while at a show.

Free to a good home: Got a lot of very good bits from the Africa Rally-Project car if anyone wants to collect, for nothing. Two good front wings, ought to help someone as they are like new, full set of seats and rear parcel shelf, front suspension, good front bumper, no marks. Two brand new near side rear-door panels, two downpipes, etc etc.from a 1.6L donor car. Collect from near Didcot (south of Abingdon/Oxford, ten mins from J13 of the M4 newbury turn-off). Would be nice if someone could take away and take to The Day...best if you email me on Mail@endurorally.com
