MG Maestro 1600 for sale on e-bay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2420383187&category=29757
Owner appears to think that no-one is interested in MG Maestros and the registration is worth more than the car. He should transfer the registration if he think it is worth £500 and sell the car a t a more reasonable price as I gather it is a non-runner.
The reserve is £399 at which I think he'll get very few bids.

I saw that for sale - The description makes it look like he dosen't know that it's the rare one, but the reserve price makes us think that it should be in a glass case.
Someone on Ebay a few weeks ago had a couple of old new stock talking computers for sale... no one wanted them though.

The turbo is the one I was interested in. Although he does know how rare the car is I think. Is it genuine though? Might take a look but its a long way to go from up here!

Can't be 100% whether its genuine but he quotes the Tickford number and tatty turbos tend to be genuine because why would you take the trouble to do an engine transplant, add a bodykit and transfers to a rusty Maestro and then auction it off for a few hundred quid?
Best to check with Martin Woods before bidding, but don't be long as there is just 24 hours left. Currently at £411 with 8 bids. The car obviously needs new doors and and a tailgate as well as the MOT welding so it wouldn't make any sense to pay too much for it.
There's a red Turbo in the classifieds for £1800 and all the restoration ahs already been carried out on that one.

Here it is, squeaky clean:

That's the one. I have seen it in the flesh and it would take more than £1400 to get the BRG one up to the condition of that red one. The current owner replaced all the panels that had any rust in them and restored it meticulously. He even has a photographic log of all the work he's done.
However if you fancy a challenge, the green one could be for you. Someone's going to be its proud owner before the weekend. "caesarceramics" is the current highest bidder!

No bids for the MG1600 and the auction has ended. £399 was far too high. No one looking to buy that car would want to pay for that so-called valuable number plate. No-one wanting a number plate wants an MG Maestro 1600 attached to it.
The fate of that car hangs in the balance - lets hope he re-auctions it and puts it up for less money. It's a non-runner so I would start the bidding at £50 or £100 not £399. I paid £295 for my MG1600 which was in almost perfect condition and had 6 months MOT, just 52K miles and one owner. And I was able to drive it back from Manchester to Bristol on the day I bought it - more than you could say for this car.

No one bid for this lovely looking 2.0i either. It only has 60K and it is MOTed until next February! The sellers of these items are starting the bids too high. £395 is what we might pay top book not a starting price in an auction. the cars that sell on ebay start at £50 or £100 and end up being sold at £150 - £200.

He is never going to do that because he thinks it is the number plate that is worth the money. I expect he imagines that someone would buy it and transfer the reg before the MOT runs out because you can't transfer a plate from a car with no MOT.
He wants to avoid paying the £80 transfer fee! That number plate is never worth £500 either. If you look at DVLA site, their plates start at £250 with three initials and a prefix.

I agree Tony - they should be using classifieds because their starting bids are what you might work down from if you had a price with ONO. But auctions don't work like so no-one bids.

Do you mean jet-ranger? You have to be a member of E-bay to e-mail the winner of an auction. I usually only e-mail vendors when I am sorting out payment and delivery of items that I have bought.
There is a tiny possibility that a buyer could complian to Ebay about someone sending unsolicited e-mails to them trying to promote a club. You see, you cannot get the e-mail address of the buyer - you have to use a form on Ebay to send a message.
However, if you use Ebay and you have a login you could give it a go. You click on the item and then it will pop up with a page telling you the auction has ended and the winners name will be displayed as a link. If you click on this link you will have to login and then finally you'll be able to e-mail the guy!
Sounds like he's best left alone, I'm sure he'll find us if he's interested.
