Hi all,

I'm waiting for my VAN to pass it's MOT. The problem is a part that still isn't delivered to the garage (it was ordered a week ago). It is the right lower front wheel mounting. (The part the suspension and wheel is turning on, in dutch: "rechter onderste fusee kogel"). This part seems to be hard to get in holland. The other thing that needs to be done is the emmision test. So it seems to be worth it (at least I think so). They are waiting with the emmision test untill the car is repaired. They are not sure if they will get it done next week as well.

So for now I'm still not 100% sure that it realy has passed its MOT. The mechanic wants to take the car for a long spin before doing the emmision part. I am qiuet confident that it will pass but .......(had one injector that wasn't working but that one is replaced) Does somebody now the presure data of the injectors (one stage I think)?

After it's MOT I have to find someone to do the welding of the sills (both sides according to the MOT mechanic) and then I'm planning to go on holiday with this car (Sweden). It lacks a lot of electronics (so not much to break then) our other cars have. And I know my way around this car :)

Marc

PS: I'm allready 2 years the "proud" owner of this car but it is almost 1.5 years ago since I took it for a good spin. Could anyone tell if there are certain things I should be aware of with this engine (besides it using 1 litre of oil every 1200 km).

In the Uk I think the bit you are referring to is called the ball joint. It is held to the lower suspension with 3 big rivets originally, but when they wear these rivits are drilled out and a new joint bolted into place. They are fairly easy to get hold of in the UK so if you get stuck I 'm sure someone can post one over.

So for now I'm still not 100% sure that it realy has passed its MOT. The mechanic wants to take the car for a long spin before doing the emmision part.

In order to get an emissions pass it is quite common to have to take it out on a good really fast run before hand to blow out all the carbon that accumulates in the exhaust. Taking the engine up to its rev limiter and holding it there seems a bit odd at first but it shouldn't cause any harm.

Keep the anti-freeze regularly changed as the head gaskets tent to corrode over time then fail. A litre of oil every 1200 km is a fair amount of oil to use but not too excessive. Does the engine burn this oil or does it drip out of the bottom like on mine!?! My Mot mechanic commented that it had a bit of a leak as he emerged covered in oil!

Otherwise the prima engine is a very very good one.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that the later 2 stage injectors may also be a direct swap for the single stage ones (so long as you take the pipework from the pump too). The 2 stage injectors are much quieter apparently and I think the fuel pump is the same.

Can anyone confirm this before I break something trying it?

Hi E_T_V,

I also would be interrested in the effects. I've seen some montego's on the scrapyard that had the 2 stage injectors. One of them had a broken cam-cover though :horror: .

Thanks,

The garage told me they had to use the blowtorch and almost twice the amount of time to replace it. This VAN is very stubern and I'm getting used to the fact that nothing is realy simple to replace.

In hindsight I'm glad I didn't do it myself.
