I installed a secondary cigarette lighter in my car yesterday. I recommend this mod to anyone and is dead handy on long journeys when you wish to use e.g. a fan or 2 mobile phones and is much tidier than a 'multi plug' setup. Illumination for the socket is provided from the purple/black wire above the inner removable panel of the glovebox so that it comes on with the lights. I installed an 'in line' fuse with a fuse holder (10A)connected straight to the battery to provide power for the lighter. I cut a hole in the middle of the rear window switch panel just big enough so that it was a tight fit and glued the edges of the lighter socket. NB: My car has the Montego style gear lever gaiter setup.
