View Full Version : Cost of wheel arch replacement

I was wondering what a reasonable cost would be to have two wheel arches replaced with repair panels including spraying in a metallic colour.

Although not for a Maestro, my mum has been quoted £400 for her Rover 100 five door. This seemed a bit steep and I thought that the cost should not be too different from a Maestro.

Hadrian supply the panels at £19 each so £362 to fit the new arches and spray seemed a huge amount. The colour is Tahiti Blue so not hard to source.

One thing the garage did say was they weren't aware you could get the replacement arches so I don't know whether they are quoting for new quarters or something. I didn't speak to them so I am not sure how they could quote to do a job when they weren't even aware of wheel arch patches.

Any guidelines would be useful so that I can try to get a more competitive quote from another garage. ;)

A good price for a good job is about £150-200 quid.

The trouble is when the outer arch rusts it takes the lip of the inner arch with it, so to do it properly you have to replace the inner arch as well. I have just replaced both inner and outer arches, petrol cap pocket, both sills, the back panel and side inner panels as well as all the bumper mounting panels.
I had never done any major bodywork before this so why not give it a go yourself all the panels (except drivers side sill) can still be bought from rover, but for how much longer???????????????

we cut out all rust,if the inner is a bit rotten then we weld in a plate the same shape....just because u cant buy bits doesnt mean u cant do i right...thats the job of a good panel beater(me?) :)

As has been said before this forum really isn't the place for advertising your business.

Here Here. Must be breaking the rules?

surly if someone asks for typical prices for doing a job, its going to attract people who do that work, these people are then going to tell you how much they would do the job for and what you would get for the money. I found it quite helpful, being in a position where Im considering if i want this job done myself.

it gives you an idea of what to expect. as for breaking forum rules....... well im not going to start on that, although i do think your being a tad silly

The issue is that is blantant advertising.

As a part time trader myself i would obviously want to try and do the same but i give advice first to help the person out rather than go for 'the sale' as it were.

There was a post made about this by Admin, in particular the signature.

maybe the signiture is a little OTT now you mention it. although I havnt really been bothered by it. too far away from me for a start and Id rather see the quality of work done on several cars than go by a yellow pages style advertisment anyway.

This isn't the place to get into this discussion, so I'll keep it short. Here is my take on things (Please note it might not be the same as everyone elses)

Advice is ok, so is telling people to go look at the services a trader offers in the recommended links and traders section when it is on topic. Blatent advertising in threads and signatures etc is not. Don't worry things are being dealt with.

Thanks for your patience.

Thanks for all the replies. It confirmed what I thought. As prices ranged from £150 to £250 for replacing the arches, the garage that has quoted £250 to rub it down and use filler (which is a bit of a waste of time) and £400 to fit the wheel arch panels (that they did not even know existed) clearly don't want the work.

We can now look for a garage where they know what they are doing and who charge a reasonable price. One problem is that lots of garages only want to do insurance work on nearly new cars as they can charge £800 to repair a small amount of damage on a Peugeot 206 caused in a supermarket carpark. :banghead:

I'm not a trader like yourself. I had a link to my website that offer's some part time bodywork repairs but its not a full time occupation, just something that earns me pocket money.

There are people out there that do a better job than a bodyshop for less than bodyshop price. Cheap doesnt always mean crap, knowing the person well and their reputation speaks more for their work rather than the price, IMO.

It's not so often I get to say this, but if you lived further north there's a great place near me I'd recommend

I know a cheap guy in Bristol - he's done loads for me and is really good (except I now live in London). He works from a farm on Dundry and I've always been very happy with the work he's done for me which includes 2 arches, door skins, rust patches all over the place. If you want his number email me at neil@shorney.fsworld.co.uk or private message me

What would it cost for a pair of rear wheelarch replacement panels for a maestro 700 van? Are there replacement panels available for the inner arches as well, 'cos the metalworm has eaten the edges of mine? Next, who would you recommend to buy these panels from? All guidance gratefully received.

When I had mine done I think the bodyshop adapted Escort arches because they couldn't get any to fit the Maestro van :(
