Recieved this email message yesterday from somebody who would like to know how much an R reg Ledbury is worth...

R Reg

Just short of 26,00 miles

Full Service History

Red, 1300 cc

!2 MOT, new battery just fitted due to the car not being driven.

Excellent condition and I mean excellent, it has been constantly garages, polished every week. I was amazed when I saw it I thought it was a transferred plate and a rebuild but I have the proof her to show its not.

Please could you get back to me on what a car like this would be worth, and or if anyone is looking for one of this nature.

...Could anybody give me a good idea as to its retail value?

Thanks
:)

£950 - £1,000 ;)

Its a hard one to value, as it cannot really be valued in the same way as other R Reg cars - as its from a different era and not in the same league as family cars from 1998. I can say it would only have a high value with enthusiasts or those wanting something quite different considering its age.

You can get them on quite a big price scale really - i paid £450 for mine last year - but i would say £1,000 is really pushing things just a tad...

It all comes down to bodywork in the end as really, the mileage is a bit of an irrelevance as the A Series will run and run.

Well yes that's true.

£450 will get you one with an engine nearly half through it's life, and with some slight "cosmetic" (body) problems. £1,000 would get you one with very little wrong with the bodywork, and an engine that's just been run in.

You cannot really compare it with say an R reg Ford Escort though, as people don't find it as appealing, in design and technological terms. If you know what I mean...

I think the name says it all.

I'd say 50,000 miles is just under a quater way through its life and still not run in (It will run forever(ish) etc etc...). Bodywork is much the luck of the draw i guess, some have worked more than others. The one in the ad above sounds like pampered car and could be very nice and tidy indeed!

There will obviously be no book price for a car like this, its worth what someone wants to pay, and no-one will buy it for a grand unless it's completely mint in every way. £750 tops.

The only real way to value a car like this it what will anyone will pay for it!!! The going rate seem £500 but this car seems exalent condition so how much do you add on top of the price for this is upto who buys it.

Why not try it on EBay? You might be suprised. Don't think that because it's an auction it won't make the true value - I bought some Revolution Alloys for £90 last year and then didn't need them - they recently sold for £255 on EBay!

They can always put a high reserve on if they wish. You don't pay the high fees unless is sells (only the listing fee).

feel a little daft asking, but what's a Ledbury?

I'd certainly pay £500 for a good Ledbury!

Umm I'm sure it is posted up somewhere else on here in more detail but basically:

When rover stopped making them they tried exporting knocked down kits to assemble in bulgaria (about 300 kits?)

The deal fell through and the kits sat in a warehouse for a while

Eventually parkway services garage near ledbury (hence the name) bought them up and set about converting them back to RHD from LHD. The built them up and sold them from R reg upto a 51 plate.

I would go with Gareth and say a top limit of £750. I would say a grand is far too much to pay.

But then as everyone else says it is worth as much as people are willing to pay.

I paid £925 for my clubman diesel (FSH, 46,000 miles at the time) two years ago. My theory was that I could have paid the same for a Fiesta diesel or similar but it would not have as many miles left in it, be in as good condition and do as good MPG (or tow a race car!).

In the event my predictions were sound. I got hit up the rear at some traffic lights about 12 months ago and got a £575 payout (after haggling). I've used a sledge hammer and some filler and now Mavis is as good as new (or at least looks okay until you look closely and at least the boot locks!).

I log every single fuel fill up and so can work out exact running costs - not including Tax or Insurance, my old Renault 5 1.2 litre petrol cost 13p per mile. So far the Maestro is 9p per mile and this will reduce further the more miles I do (discounting major costly problems).

Anyway, I'm getting off the subject a bit bit if you look at the car as a vehicle with lots of life left in it I reckon it's got to be worth £750. But then will anyone pay that? Maybe stick it in a dry barn and sell it in 2030. ;)

Well, there is one on EBay now and bidding currently stands at £850. All those who said £750 tops hang your head in shame for playing down the desirablility of such a classic motor.
