The backrest on my efi seat is slightly twisted (a bit like its owner!) I do however have a pair of good seats from a city X is it possible to swap the metalwork of the seats or are the non mg ones different? An if possible how hard is the job? TIA

I did a tutorial about changing seat covers so search for that and it will inform you how to do it.

The only thing im not 100% on , is ,are non mg frames the same as mg ones?
Also is there any sowing involved?

No sowing needed. I'm not sure about the Maestro seat.
The difference should only be in the foam from my recollection, the frame is the same as its from an early model but i'm sure, someone will come along and tell you soon.
If you're not sure you can look 'into' the seat if you pull back the bottom of the cover to see the frame
