Hi Ali.
While you are sourcing a new housing, test the thermostat to see if it is actually working. Heat the thermostat in a pan of water along with a thermometer, check the stat opens at the correct temperature. The stat temperature will be stamped on it somewhere, 82C or 88C are the normal options.
With the weather being so extreme at the moment, if you don't have the correct antifreeze strength then the radiator could have frozen up.

Sounds like could be thermostat. Does the radiator get warm while its overheating?

Hi
I guess you've done this by now. If not, when I broke two of the bolts on my 1.3 Maestro's 'stat housing, I got replacements quite easily from a local engineering company by matching the only survivor. The heads were different, but that didn't cause a problem. I think he said the threads were Whitworth but it was a while ago now.

Rimmers now sell these bolts.

i went thro 3no thermostats in my ragged old vectra 2.0i-i found a cheap thermostat replacement using a cardboard tube to fit it not the housing for cheapness-then i bought a low temp running thermostat which some will scoff at on here? cool running plugs are useful - blast thro the rad with hose to rid all the scale / rad wetter water / conditioner....new water pump?
dunno.com
on my GTE i had to fit 3no. helicoils as the threads stripped
