View Full Version : Diesel van sump capacity?

Hi all,

Not having the luxury of a manual, I wonder if anyone can tell me the sump oil capacity of my 1993 Rover Maestro 2.0 litre diesel van? I'm about to drain off the old oil, but don't want the neighbours up in arms if my washing-up bowl doesn't hold enough!
While I'm here, can anyone give me the correct tyre pressures for this van?
Thanks, Phil.

OK,

Just out of the haines manual:
Engine Oil (including filter): 5.25 litres (9.0 pints)

I used to set the tire presure to slightly over 2 bar (not sure in psi). This isn't in the Haynes manual. My guess is that it should be on a sticker near the drivers door.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for that info - I've just put 9 pints into my old washing up bowl, and it doesn't overflow, so its all systems go tomorrow. Unfortunately my van has had one or two resprays, and any factory stickers on the thing have long since gone!

Cheers, Phil

Hi Phil,

I just checked my car (that realy is in need of a respray  ) but couldn't find the sticker as well. Most cars have one so I expected one to be there. I would probably go for 2.1 bar in the front wheels and 2.4 in the rear wheel. (BTW mine is a 700L whatever the L means  )

The 700 is the payload of the van (700kg) and the L is the trim level. the most basic was the city, and the L was probably the most high spec van they did even though it is only one step up from the city.

I think the pressures were much higher than 2 bar but I'll check later when I get home.

Hi,

It has been a workhorse and not had some bad maintenance and care. The previous owner transported all kinds of stuff with it (that often fell over against the inside of the car). Not to good visible with this picture is the uncountable amount of minor dents from the inside. I'm wondering if it would be possible to get the sides tidy and flat again. It's a shame that they are that rare in Holland (especialy for the spares department).

According to the Austin Rover manual

500 Van:
Tyre size:
165-13 Front=1.8bar/28PSI Rear = 2.8bar/40PSI
175/82 TR 14 Front=1.8bar/26PSI Rear=2.8 bar/40PSI (note the error in the manual!)

700 Van:
Tyre size:
165-13 Front=1.8bar/28PSI Rear = 3.2bar/46PSI
175/82 TR 14 Front=1.8bar/26PSI Rear=3.2 bar/46PSI (note the error in the manual!)

If van is consistantly operated in a lightly laden condition then the rears can be reduced by 0.4bar/6PSI
