because my exaust is leaking im looking at getting a new one some stage this year.
im planning on keeping my car for as long as i can so I think a stainless exaust is in order.
What i don't want is one of those great big ones with a tail pipe about 4" diameter, I want it to look standard.
I was wondering if anyone has fitted one and if so how much it cost? Also can you get them from a normal exaust centre or is it one of those things that you have to have made?
cheers Andy

I pretty sure that no-one does an 'off the shelf' stainless/performance exhaust for the maestro/montego any more - I could be wrong!
You can get them custom made though, e.g. http://www.powerflow.uk.com/

I'm due to get a Powerflow for the camper on 9th July, so I'll let you know how it goes (with pictures if possible!). I've been quoted around £200 for a custom job which I don't think is bad considering it's not a standard application (I guess they don't get many requests to fit stainless exhausts to diesel Maestro vans!).

In 1998 I got a Stainless Steel exhaust from The Stainless Steel Exhaust Centre (I think!!!) in Battersea, London, and it was £360 delivered by Courier (UPS, I think). My mechanic fitted it in an hour and that was that. No problems since, it's probably paid for itself as I do mostly short journeys which shorten a mild steel exhaust's life considerably. 25 year guarantee too, as long as the mountings are maintained. I got this off the shelf (the exhaust not the guarantee). I'm planning on keeping the car for ever, or at least as long as possible, as well, so considered it a worthwhile investment at the time.
