Done a search and found a couple of posts similar to this but all with the 1.3 or 1.6 engined maestros.

I have a maestro turbo that hasnt been driven since saturday evening as i was removing the oil breather system to give it a clean.

Refitted it all today and drove down to work and theres a LOAD of free travel in the clutch pedal, id guess about half the travel does nothing. Means the biting point is right on the floor and it was a struggle to engage a gear sometimes. Its only about half a mile to work and by the time i released what the problem was (was half asleep) i was most of the way there.

Im pretty sure the clutch is good, ie doesnt slip with the handbrake on, but will double check later. When fully depressed the clutch pedal only returns to the top of the point where it starts to function ie lower than the brake pedal.

Im hoping i can just adjust it or will i need a new cable? Very very skint atm so if i can adjust it so it works temporarily that'll do

Yes sounds like its just the cable, try resetting it and if that dosn't work a new cable should sort it.

Grasp the clutch arm on the gearbox and push it firmly down towards the floor, when the arm moves you will hear the self adjustment mechanism clicking. Release the clutch arm, then gently shake or pull the outer cable near the large spring of the self adjuster mechanism to assist the spring to take up the right amount of slack. DO NOT pull hard on the outer cable as this will over adjust the cable.

Cheers for that gforce, did it this morning and theres still some free play at the top of the clutch pedal but not as much so its working again at least.

Think it would probably be a good idea to invest in a new one however. Would a cable of an efi fit? Or is there a specific one for the turbo? If an efi one will fit this will do the job i think? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MG-MAESTRO-MON...-/260691315711

Help appreciated as always :D

Yes sounds like you do need a new cable then. The part no.s for turbo & efi are probably different, but I'm fairly confident the efi one will fit. You might just have to move the position of the rubber grommet along a bit where it clips to the intercooler hard pipes.
