2011 Show Season
The list of events for the the 2011 show season is detailed in the list below. We would like to see your Maestro or Montego whatever its condition...we really don't care what it looks like as long as you use it and enjoy it!
Please let me know if there are any events you think we should attend
we will try and get the club banner to as many as possible
I am also looking for some regional helpers, especially in the Northern areas, that could attend some events that may be too far for me to get to.
There are plans to get some more bunting/banners, so we can keep some in strategic locations in the country.
RED indicates the club stand will be there.
06/03/2011 - Austin/Morris Day - Brooklands Museum
All types of Morris & Austin vehicles on display in and around the Paddock, with Test Hill in action and aero-engine runs (subject to serviceability). All drivers and passengers arriving in Morris or Austin cars at the Campbell Entrance off Brooklands Road (the B374) will receive a discount of £1 off our usual prices. Parking for visitors in non-Morris and Austin cars will be in our main visitor car park at Mercedes-Benz World and in The Heights off Wellington Way.

Some ramblings from me: It would be nice if MG Saloon Day could be turned into a joint venture between both clubs, it has been suffering the past few years with Maestro/Montego representation and a lack of volunteers to help out with the organising.

As the Events Coordinator I'd be more than happy to host a joint event with the MG'M' Group, as the lack of our own National event was raised at the AGM.
Its probably a bit to early to start talking now. but i have no objections.

I would like to see Tatton Park and some of the other Northern events (often jointly with the Allegro club) stay on the calendar. Not that I ever manage to get to them all, mind...!

They should be staying, Chris. I plan to organise some shows, like Tatton Park and Cholmondeley Castle as in previous years. A banner and some bunting for the 'Northern Area' would be a great improvement and hopefully the first steps to a more formalised area structure.

i will definitely look to get some extra bunting made up, as we did decide at the AGM more regionalised structure would help the club attend more events.
as the events coordinator has changed, the 'local' events will change.
its unavoidable I'm afraid. but Rich has already indicated he will help out in places nearer to him.

Great stuff, Rich - I thought that may be the case but didn't want to volunteer you just in case ;)

Please try & arange BL Day not to clash with the MG Northern National In Harrogate. They were a week apart this year so I could go to both.
There was also a very poor representation of MMM's at the Harrogate event this year & never that good anyway so lets see more in 2011.
The event is generally the 1st weekend in August.

So are a lot of events I'm afraid - including BL day.
Our club doesn't arrange BL day, so we can't really re-schedule it.

I'll be attending the Austin/Morris day at Brooklands as it's a good start to the show season. I went for the first time this year and it was a nice relaxed affair. Even though later MM cars were badged as Rovers they will still let you in, they're not too pedantic about such things.

I definitely think this forum should join with MGM with regard to MG saloon day. The joining up of both clubs would make the show much better and ultimately will give more exposure to the Maestro / Montego cars.
I also think Triple M should be involved as well as anyone interested in Maestro Montegos's will have some interest in the MG / Metro side!! The regulars here wil know the regulars on Triple M so im struggling to see why the groups are all separate!

To my recollection Triple M was formed as a forum breakaway from the MGCC forums and MGM group, who do not have a forum as such.
I'm a member of this club/MGM and I sometimes post up on Triple M but that forum is getting very quiet now as guys move on to other cars.
Unfortunately Maestros/Montegos are getting thin on the ground now as cars have either been scrapped or sold on to non-forum buyers. This is also happening with other clubs/forums etc and is a fact of life as younger drivers go on forums instead with 'newer' cars and don't need to join clubs.
With regard to Metros, some members also have these cars but this isn't a Metro club.

Some people think Triple-M was only formed because one of its founders (who has since largely left the scene) was banned from here at the time. If there's any truth in that, then it's only the partial truth. For most of its early subscribers like me (who were both disassociated with and disinterested in the politics concerning its conception), it was basically the logical successor to Mike Plumstead's MG Metro, Maestro and Montego BBS (http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&access=&mode=tlist&subject=7). By 2004 before Triple-M was launched, it was looking very dated. You couldn't edit mistakes in your posts, you couldn't add pictures, signatures, avatars, hotlinks or bbcode, and there were no neat organised sub-boards other than one generic MG Metro, Maestro and Montego Technical (http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&access=&mode=tlist&subject=21) board. That is why, by and large, the 'MG people' hang out on Triple-M with a degree of overlap to here, and why, by and large, the 'Austin people' hang out here with a degree of overlap to Triple-M.
Useless trivia #3.296: the first forum/BBS I ever joined of any desciption was that old MG BBS, and the first person to say 'hello and welcome' in my first tentative introductory post was the person who here calls himself 'mgdavid'. And just to make both he and I feel old, that was so long ago that some of this forum's youngest contributors were still in nappies :)

David Geere is the man who organises Ardingly. I believe he has other involvement in the show anyway and has organised the Clubs attendance in previous years.

Looking at going to Pride of Longbridge this year again. If I can make it (subject to time off from work), can I park up with the other cars on the MMOC club stand? I got there too late last year and missed out, although I did visit the club stand :-)

That was a beautiful venue last year. Shame only about 20 MG MMMs turned up, and we brought two of them.

As John says, beautiful venue!
But an absolutely awful turnout in comparison to previous years, surely not that many people have fallen out of the scene!?!?! What happened?
I am guilty for not bringing my Stro, but i hope to bring it to a show sometime next year.

Long story, but here is the short one. We had to change the venue after the publicity went out, and the Metro Owners didn't turn up as one of them had a big crash on the way.
Hope we see more MMOC cars this year.

We will be bringing a MMM car to saloon day this year. If there are still spaces for the Bromely pageant I can offer my 6K car as it will be going to a few shows this year.

Any news on tatton park yet.
The two Tatton Park shows are to be held on 4th and 5th June, and 20th & 21st August. Ticket applications have been sent out for both shows...It's not me booking the tickets for this one, and the person who makes it so likes to get the applications in nice and early!
However, all is not lost if you wish to attend, and I've sent you a PM with further details.

Sorry must have missed the posts relating to Tatton. Is it too late to get Jum on the stand. Or should I rephrase that.....is a slightly modded MG Turbo wanted on the stand?:D Was gonna go anyway (smoke or no smoke, but hopefully NO by then!) but would rather park with other MMMs instead of in the carpark! Should I contact Rich? Is he on here?
