Bit of a silly one here, I bought a new lockset for the van from ledbury when I got it, as the old ignition lock had been destroyed, into the bargain I got a brand new fuel cap. Problem is, when I fill up, I notice afterwards a stream of Diesel down the side of the van from the cap.

It has the rubber in there, and seems a good tight fit, but it leaks for some unknown reason, could it be a cap for an Unleaded van, therefore allowing the leak? Although I am sure there shouldnt be a dramatic difference? The original one had a green bit in it, as you look to the bit that goes into the tank, and so does this one.

Thanks, Rich

I thought my diesel was doing this, but after some considerable investigation I found that drips from the pump nozzle as it was removed were dropping onto the small ledge beneath the filler flap and below the cap. There is a weld seam here for the body work which makes a hollow just deep enough to hold a bit of diesel which then dribbles out of the filler flap when you drive off around a left hand bend.

To check this, fill your tank up and when you've replaced the cap be sure to wipe around under the filler flap to remove all diesel drips. Then drive around for a bit and check again. You may be suprised...

Rich, As you say it would appear that your green cap is for a petrol model.
Both diesels I have had both had red filler caps and I think it does say diesel on them.

I looked at mine when I filled up at the weekend and yes, it is red with "diesel" embossed into it.

I think its confirmed in that case then, I must have had an unleaded one in the first place, which is why I didnt think anything of the green replacement one I got!

Thanks for the help guys, will have to see if I can find a red one now!!
